Lead Application Engineer, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and mentor a team of application engineers, offering technical guidance, architectural direction, code evaluations, and support for intricate engineering challenges.

• Create, develop, and sustain production-ready applications and microservices utilizing Java, Spring Boot, Spring Data, and RESTful APIs.

• Employ microservices, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native engineering principles to construct scalable and resilient applications.

• Direct application assessments, containerization efforts, and the migration from VM-based environments to Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine.

• Administer application configurations, manage secrets, ensure runtime readiness, and oversee test automation.

• Facilitate application deployments and troubleshooting within Kubernetes environments, including Docker containers, CI/CD pipelines, resource configurations, and runtime challenges.

• Formulate and execute unit, integration, and API testing strategies.

• Design and maintain data-access layers that incorporate SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Implement observability practices such as centralized logging, monitoring, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting.

• Collaborate with platform engineering, DevOps, security, and architecture teams to establish standards, reusable solutions, and deployment best practices.

• Organize and coordinate engineering activities, manage technical dependencies, and guide the delivery of modernization initiatives across over 500 applications.

• Leverage Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini to enhance development, modernization, testing, documentation, and engineering automation.

• Utilize GCP as the principal cloud platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology and Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Extensive experience in application engineering, Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.

• Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, application testing, and troubleshooting in production environments.

• Familiarity with application modernization, VM-to-container migration, and cloud deployments.

• Strong comprehension of SQL and NoSQL databases, application observability, and distributed systems.

• Proven technical leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, and collaboration skills across teams.

• Preferred: Experience with React, Angular, or Vue and their integration with RESTful APIs.
