Kernel Build Automation Engineer – Ubuntu Linux

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Take the lead in designing and implementing an advanced automated Linux build control system.

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration within the Canonical ecosystem.

• Examine kbuild, kconfig, and make to identify the best solutions for various challenges.

• Suggest innovative approaches to overcome kernel build obstacles and advocate for their acceptance upstream.

• Oversee the implementation process from initial concept to final delivery.

• Produce and sustain high-quality, high-performance Ubuntu kernels in partnership with global public cloud providers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong programming skills in Python, with significant proficiency in C also preferred.

• Proven experience in patching and configuring the Linux kernel.

• In-depth understanding of kconfig and git is essential.

• Ability to effectively communicate in English, both in written and verbal forms.

• Solid experience with open-source projects aimed at creating custom Linux-based distributions like Yocto or buildroot.

• Comprehensive knowledge of git.

• Industry expert with extensive experience across various software stacks.

• Advanced skills in git usage and kernel patching.

• Proficiency in Javascript or Golang programming (preferred).

• Experience in developing CLI tools, particularly those interacting with REST APIs (preferred).

• Strong background in CI/CD practices and process automation (preferred).

• Familiarity with software packaging formats, especially Ubuntu/Debian/Snap (preferred).
