Junior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Assist in the design, testing, and upkeep of data pipelines and integration processes.

• Provide support for the collection, transformation, and loading of data from various source systems.

• Conduct data profiling and perform basic analysis on source systems to identify data quality issues and areas for improvement.

• Write, maintain, and enhance SQL queries and data transformation logic.

• Aid in validating data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems.

• Engage in troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues and production support requests.

• Help create and maintain source-to-target mapping documentation and technical specifications.

• Support data warehousing and reporting efforts through data preparation and validation tasks.

• Monitor data processes and communicate performance or quality concerns to senior team members.

• Contribute to the deployment of Azure-based data solutions and services.

• Adhere to established DevOps, CI/CD, and data governance practices.

• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.

• Document workflows, processes, and technical solutions.

• Continuously enhance technical skills and stay updated on emerging data technologies and best practices.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

• 0-3 years of experience in data engineering, software development, data analytics, or a related technical discipline.

• Basic knowledge of database concepts, data structures, and data integration methods.

• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases is essential.

• Experience with Python, PowerShell, or another scripting language is beneficial.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a team setting.

• A strong desire to learn new technologies and best practices in data engineering.

• Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is advantageous.

• Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline development is helpful.

• Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.

• Experience with Git or other version control systems.

• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.

• Experience with reporting or visualization tools such as Power BI.

• Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience involving data management or analytics.

• SQL query development and data analysis skills.

• Basic skills in Python or PowerShell scripting.

• Understanding of data quality and validation techniques.

• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or similar technologies is a plus.

• Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.

• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
