This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Establish and oversee a dedicated Japanese channel on our Discord server from the ground up, including the channel structure, roles, bots, and moderation.
• Create a growth strategy for the Japanese community that focuses on MMO players, guild leaders, and content creators.
• Identify, connect with, and cultivate relationships with Japanese YouTubers, streamers, and content creators who specialize in MMOs, pixel art games, or cozy games.
• Interact with Japanese gaming communities on platforms such as Twitter/X (notably popular among Japanese gamers), Niconico, YouTube, and 5ch/game forums.
• Collaborate with Japanese MMO guilds to recruit organized groups into Soulbound, recognizing and leveraging the differences between Japanese and Western guild cultures.
• Localize community announcements, patch notes, and event communications with native-level writing that resonates with a Japanese audience, avoiding machine translation.
• Organize community events that reflect Japanese player culture, such as housing contests, guild showcases, and seasonal events that appeal locally.
• Prepare weekly reports detailing Japanese community sentiment, growth metrics, the content creator pipeline, and cultural insights valuable to the team.
• Serve as the cultural advisor for the broader team on related matters, providing insight into what resonates and what to avoid.
• Collaborate with our Community Director on cross-community events and ensure consistent messaging.
• Native-level proficiency in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) is essential. You will be composing community posts, responding to players, and negotiating with creators in Japanese.
• Fluent in English (minimum professional working proficiency) to effectively communicate with the UK-based team.
• Extensive personal experience with MMOs; you have played them seriously and comprehend the reasons why players remain engaged for years.
• Knowledge of the Japanese gaming content creator landscape, including major gaming YouTubers, the role of VTubers, and which streamers focus on MMOs versus action games.
• Familiarity with Japanese online communities, including Discord JP servers, Twitter JP gaming community, Niconico, and 5ch gaming boards.
• Understanding of Japanese guild culture in MMOs, including how JP FCs/LSes/guilds recruit, organize, and communicate differently from Western guilds.
• Self-starter mentality; you recognize opportunities to promote Soulbound to a JP audience and take action without being prompted.

• Prior community management experience at a game studio, particularly for a Western game launching in Japan.
• Established relationships with Japanese gaming content creators.
• Insight into Japan's content creator agency landscape.
• Extensive experience playing FFXIV, PSO2, Dragon Quest X, or other MMOs heavily focused on the Japanese market.
• Ability to create short-form video content in Japanese.
• Experience in localizing gaming content, going beyond translation to achieve true cultural localization.
