IT Systems – Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Your primary objective will be to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of n8n’s IT operations while minimizing manual tasks through intelligent, maintainable automation.

• You will blend practical IT operations with ongoing process enhancements across the following domains:

• IDENTITY, ACCESS, AND SAAS OPERATIONS

• Take ownership of daily identity and access management across Okta, Google Workspace, GitHub, and integrated SaaS applications.

• Oversee employee and application lifecycle workflows, which include provisioning, access modifications, group assignments, troubleshooting, and deprovisioning.

• Maintain an up-to-date SaaS inventory and assist with application administration, lifecycle management, access governance, and account reconciliation.

• EMPLOYEE AND ENDPOINT LIFECYCLE

• Provide reliable and prompt onboarding and offboarding experiences in close collaboration with People, Finance, managers, and application owners.

• Manage and troubleshoot n8n’s primarily macOS device fleet using our endpoint management tools.

• Assist in hardware procurement, device lifecycle processes, and secure endpoint operations for a growing distributed team.

• AUTOMATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

• Create and implement secure automations for recurring IT processes using n8n, APIs, scripting, and AI-assisted tools when suitable.

• Revamp manual workflows to ensure they are observable, documented, reliable, and simpler to operate at scale.

• Develop automations with proper logging, error handling, monitoring, ownership, and human approval steps for sensitive decisions.

• SUPPORT, DOCUMENTATION, AND COMPLIANCE

• Provide responsive L1/L2 IT support while leveraging recurring issues to identify opportunities for systemic enhancements.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive runbooks, process documentation, escalation procedures, and operational controls.

• Assist in security and compliance initiatives, including access reviews, audit evidence gathering, SOC 2, and ISO 27001-related processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• 🧰 Modern IT operations experience: You possess 2–4 years of experience in IT systems administration, SaaS administration, IAM, workplace engineering, or a similar role within a SaaS, cloud-first, or distributed organization.

• 🔐 Identity and access management: You have hands-on experience with Google Workspace and an identity provider such as Okta or Microsoft Entra ID.

• 🔄 Employee lifecycle management: You have overseen onboarding, offboarding, group management, role assignments, access changes, and secure deprovisioning.

• 💻 macOS endpoint management: You have managed macOS devices through an MDM platform like Kandji, Jamf, JumpCloud, Workspace ONE, or a similar tool.

• ⚙️ Workflow automation: You can demonstrate your ability to enhance or automate an operational process using APIs, scripting, workflow automation platforms, or AI-assisted tools.

• 🔌 Integration fundamentals: You possess working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, authentication principles, and integration troubleshooting.

• 🔍 Technical troubleshooting: You can diagnose workflow and system issues using logs, API responses, system events, and other operational data.

• 🧭 Ownership and judgment: You are recognized for strong ownership, sound judgment, diligence, and a careful approach to privileged access, sensitive data, and significant changes.

• 🤝 Service mindset: You communicate effectively, document your work thoroughly, and are dedicated to providing a reliable experience for internal users.

• 🌍 Autonomous working style: You are comfortable prioritizing tasks and making progress independently in a dynamic, distributed environment without needing highly defined procedures for every task.

• 🔗 Workflow automation platforms: You have experience with n8n or another workflow automation platform like Zapier or Make.

• ⌨️ Scripting: You have basic scripting knowledge in Python, JavaScript, or Bash.

• 🪪 Identity protocols: You have familiarity with SAML, OIDC, SSO, and SCIM.

• 🐙 GitHub administration: You have experience managing GitHub organizations, teams, repositories, and permissions.

• 🤖 Reliable AI workflows: You have designed AI-assisted workflows that include validation, human approvals, monitoring, error handling, and fallback paths.

• 🛡️ Automation reliability: You comprehend concepts such as retries, idempotency, secrets management, auditability, and failure handling.

• 📋 Security and compliance: You are familiar with SOC 2, ISO 27001, access reviews, or audit evidence collection.

• 🚀 Scaling environments: You have experience in an early-stage or rapidly expanding IT function where processes and systems were still being established.
