Investment Lead

📋 Description

• Enhance the candidate pipeline by proactively engaging with networks such as researchers, investors, founders, and funders to uncover new ideas and technologies. Manage referral channels including open RFPs and referrals, while screening investment and grant opportunities.

• Take ownership of projects throughout the diligence and transaction execution phases. Propel companies through comprehensive and technical diligence, assessing the quality of science, development plans, team capabilities, and alignment with our target product profile (TPP). Lead the investment or grantmaking process, coordinating with both internal and external legal and diligence consultants. Navigate projects through internal approval processes, acting as the internal advocate and champion.

• Formulate insights on various technologies. Contribute to the creation of a point of view (POV) for the 5-10 most promising methodologies (such as siRNA, T-cell vaccines, innate immune stimulators), identifying critical 'gating datapoints' that could prompt us to either discontinue or invest further in a specific approach, along with the timeline for obtaining that datapoint (or identifying any gaps).

• Develop and sustain the CRM system. Ensure that our CRM encompasses nearly all known projects, along with a systematic process to discover and document the best new projects at an early stage.

• Manage the portfolio effectively. Provide support for portfolio projects and lead initiatives to accelerate and assist projects following investment. Determine strategies that would enable the leading projects in the field to progress twice as quickly beyond just funding, ensuring those strategies are implemented.

• Identify demand-side bottlenecks. Assist in mapping key stakeholders and addressing critical evidence requirements and bottlenecks across areas such as regulatory issues, clinical pathways, recommendations, reimbursement, and adoption/uptake.

⛳️ Requirements

• MD/PhD in immunology or infectious disease, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in investing, business development/partnering, or grantmaking; or at least 5 years of biotech investment experience in immunology or infectious disease within a venture capital fund.

• Proven experience in portfolio management, including portfolio construction and post-award oversight.

• Capability to translate scientific diligence into strategic investment recommendations and maintain a coherent view on capital deployment.

• Experience in product development, or broad exposure through investing in or supporting companies.

• Skilled in project management from initiation to completion, acting as a project quarterback with a strong willingness to engage hands-on.

• Highly self-directed, diligent, a quick learner, an excellent communicator, and action-oriented (preferring to act rather than just discuss).
