This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Take ownership and oversee Commercial Auto, Commercial General Liability, and Excess Liability products, including forms, endorsements, rating plans, underwriting guidelines, state regulations, and product documentation.
• Act as the main technical resource for interpreting coverage, constructing policies, rating methodologies, regulatory compliance, and best practices for products.
• Create and maintain ISO, proprietary, non-ISO, and manuscript forms, endorsements, rules, and associated product materials.
• Assess policy language and product frameworks to pinpoint coverage gaps, conflicting clauses, unintended coverage grants, and inconsistencies between excess and primary policies.
• Stay informed on ISO, legislative, regulatory, judicial, and market changes, coordinating necessary product updates.
• Lead the implementation of ISO updates and establish suitable strategies for adoption, modification, or enhancement.
• Manage filings for admitted product forms, rates, and rules, including communication with regulators, objection handling, and approval processes.
• Keep up-to-date with state-specific product requirements, including approved forms, rates, rules, notices, and compliance obligations.
• Provide expertise in admitted, non-admitted, surplus lines, transportation, captive, and alternative-risk insurance programs.
• Assess the interaction of deductibles, self-insured retentions, captive participation, reinsurance, attachment points, and excess coverage frameworks.
• Establish standards for product governance, approval processes, and controls for product modifications, exceptions, and manuscript endorsements.
• Convert product requirements into business and system specifications, and assist with testing and implementation efforts.
• Collaborate with Claims, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Underwriting, Operations, and Technology to ensure product accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
• Provide functional leadership to internal stakeholders, external vendors, consultants, and filing resources.
• Counsel leadership on product risks, regulatory changes, market trends, and strategic product opportunities.
• Maintain precise records of product decisions, approvals, filings, and implementation activities.
• Manage several product initiatives while ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely execution.
• Develop product guidance, reference materials, and training to support underwriting and maintain operational consistency.
• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in Commercial Property & Casualty insurance or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Extensive experience in managing commercial casualty products, specifically Commercial Auto, Commercial General Liability, and Excess Liability.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO products, forms, endorsements, classifications, loss costs, filings, and implementation criteria.
• Experience in developing, reviewing, or implementing proprietary, non-ISO, and manuscript forms and endorsements.
• Proven track record in managing form, rate, and rule filings while interacting with state insurance regulators.
• Strong understanding of admitted, non-admitted, and surplus lines markets.
• Demonstrated capability to analyze complex coverage, rating, regulatory, and product issues and devise effective solutions.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across Underwriting, Claims, Compliance, Legal, Actuarial, Operations, and Technology.
• Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and project management abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and insurance product, policy administration, rating, or filing systems.
• Experience with Commercial Auto, particularly regarding trucking, transportation, or motor carrier risks.
• Familiarity with captive, fronting, alternative-risk, or multilayer casualty programs.
• Experience utilizing SERFF and other regulatory filing platforms.
• Experience in implementing products within policy administration systems and translating business needs into system specifications.
• Property & Casualty license and/or professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, AU, CIC, or ARe.
• Experience providing functional leadership to product analysts, filing professionals, or external product resources.
