This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands, +1 more country.
• Establish and oversee Unit4’s research agenda focusing on human-AI interaction.
• Collaborate with the AI First program to determine research priorities.
• Analyze the methods through which AI should engage and communicate with users.
• Explore how agents represent themselves, elucidate their actions, and convey uncertainty.
• Investigate the dynamics of trust between humans and agents, including its development, calibration, and erosion.
• Assess AI’s cognitive and behavioral effects on productivity and decision-making in enterprise environments.
• Ensure that human-AI collaboration is safe, equitable, transparent, and trustworthy.
• Transform research outcomes into guiding principles and patterns for future AI interactions.
• Cultivate partnerships with universities and academic institutions.
• Evaluate potential research collaborations and internship requirements.
• Offer expert guidance on subject matter without formally managing a team.
• Work alongside architecture, AI research, information science, product, design, engineering, and responsible AI teams.
• Contribute to product usability and customer research initiatives.
• Some background in researching human cognition, decision-making, or technology interactions, with a focus in cognitive science, human-computer interaction, human factors, psychology, or a related discipline.
• Strong proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
• Experience in designing studies and experiments, and drawing valid conclusions.
• Capability to take ownership of a research domain, articulate questions, establish priorities, and operate with minimal supervision.
• Skill in translating academic insights into actionable principles and recommendations for product and engineering teams.
• Ability to communicate research findings effectively to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Practical experience in examining how humans and intelligent systems collaborate.
• Preferred, but not mandatory: research experience in trust, explainability, or human oversight of automated or AI systems.
• Preferred, but not mandatory: background in studying knowledge work or decision-making within organizational contexts.
• Preferred, but not mandatory: experience with academic collaborations, publishing, or university partnerships.
• Preferred, but not mandatory: knowledge of responsible AI principles or AI regulations.
• Proficiency or willingness to work in English.
