This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
β’ Act as a primary HR contact for designated clients, delivering prompt and considerate support.
β’ Address employee relations inquiries, interpret policies, and provide general HR compliance assistance, including managing leave and accommodation processes across various states (experience in California and New York/NYC is essential).
β’ Participate in client meetings to share updates, provide follow-ups, and manage documentation.
β’ Utilize internal platforms such as ClickUp, Clockify, and Slack to monitor work and communicate progress.
β’ Take ownership of HR deliverables, including employee handbooks, policies, onboarding/offboarding toolkits, and performance frameworks, ensuring a high standard of human-centered work throughout.
β’ Independently draft and refine deliverables, escalating only strategic or unfamiliar issues while applying an equity-informed perspective.
β’ Monitor timelines, milestones, and deliverables in ClickUp, updating task statuses daily, and proactively identifying bottlenecks or retention/utilization concerns.
β’ Collaborate with the Client Account Manager (CAM) on scope-related inquiries and meeting arrangements.
β’ Delegate formatting, research, or administrative tasks to Project Support when necessary.
β’ Draft and enhance internal SOPs and processes as our internal systems evolve.
β’ Provide feedback and insights on internal People practices as we grow, ensuring we embody the principles we advocate.
β’ Attend monthly team meetings.
β’ 5+ years of HR generalist experience (preferably in nonprofit or values-aligned environments).
β’ A commitment to social justice and an equity-informed mindset.
β’ Practical experience managing leave and accommodation procedures across multiple states, with a solid understanding of California and New York regulations; knowledge of Massachusetts or Oregon is a plus.
β’ Proven experience leading HR initiatives such as policy development, audits, or onboarding/offboarding systems.
β’ Experience overseeing full-cycle HR project delivery, including client interactions, timeline oversight, and task management.
β’ Familiarity with compliance areas such as FMLA, ADA, EEOC, and wage & hour regulations.
β’ Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
β’ Proficient in (or eager to learn) ClickUp, Slack, and Google Suite.
β’ Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to work independently.
β’ A proven history of creating processes or documentation that are easily transferable to others, rather than solely existing in personal knowledge.
β’ Experience with compensation structuring and job leveling is advantageous but not mandatory.
β’ Experience supporting employee relations investigations and conflict resolution.
β’ Background in designing performance frameworks or onboarding programs.
β’ 20 hours of vacation time.
