HPC Scientific Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Assist faculty, researchers, and students involved in high-performance and AI-focused research initiatives.

• Deploy, optimize, and sustain scientific software and computational workflows on state-of-the-art HPC systems and associated infrastructure.

• Oversee and resolve issues with intricate software stacks, containerized applications, and GPU-accelerated workloads utilizing tools such as SLURM, EasyBuild, Spack, etc.

• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary research teams to improve system performance, refine data-intensive workflows, and incorporate advanced technologies.

• Evaluate and enhance the performance of AI models and HPC applications, with an emphasis on GPU computing.

• Apply parallel processing, distributed computing, and resource management strategies for effective job execution.

• Create, troubleshoot, and sustain software tools, libraries, and frameworks that aid HPC and AI tasks.

• Manage and facilitate the deployment of scientific software across HPC, cloud, and colocation facilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in computer science or a closely related quantitative field.

• Five years of experience in HPC user support, software deployment, and performance enhancement in an academic or research setting.

• Background in scientific computing environments and applications.

• Practical experience with SLURM for job scheduling.

• Proficiency in Python, Perl, C/C++, and Shell scripting for automation and system administration.

• Advanced knowledge of Linux operating systems and expertise in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, and Shell.

• Familiarity with scientific application management tools including Containerization, LUA modules, CMake, Spack, and EasyBuild.

• Experience in conducting training workshops, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
