Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain management, symptom control, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel autonomously to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical evaluations, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the role's scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and assist families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, and understanding euthanasia and aftercare processes.

• Keep precise veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Engage with pet families, Heartstrings veterinary, scheduling, operations, support personnel, and referring veterinary teams.

• Safely manage, position, and aid in the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while operating in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Must hold, or be eligible to secure, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be rendered.

• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capable of safely traveling between scheduled in-home veterinary visits.

• Comfortable working autonomously as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate empathetically and professionally during conversations regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life issues, and end-of-life decisions.

• Availability for rotational weekend shifts.

• Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations where necessary.

• Ability to perform physical and logistical tasks in diverse residential settings.

• Successful completion of necessary background and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and prior to the scheduled start date.
