This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Execute coding and abstracting of diagnoses, procedures, and patient details from outpatient visits, including ambulatory surgeries, and input data into the hospital information system.
β’ Code inpatient visits as necessary, utilizing relevant knowledge and experience.
β’ Ensure the accuracy and completeness of abstracted hospital information fields by cross-referencing with the paper medical record and making necessary corrections.
β’ Prioritize coding and abstracting tasks for both outpatient and inpatient encounters to ensure coding remains up to date.
β’ Engage with physicians or their office staff in cases where documentation lacks clarity or is insufficient.
β’ Uphold coding expertise through self-directed ongoing education.
β’ Stay informed about current trends, updates, and alterations in coding policies and procedures.
β’ Deliver care and services tailored to the demographic served within the designated unit or work area.
β’ Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
β’ Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA; or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) from AAPC; or Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) from the Radiology Coding Certification Board.
β’ High School diploma or equivalent.
β’ Minimum of one to two years of coding experience.
β’ If designated as Interventional Radiology Coder: at least one to two years of outpatient Interventional Radiology coding experience.
β’ Proficiency in operating a codefinder.
