HIM Coding Specialist II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Execute coding and abstracting of diagnoses, procedures, and patient details from outpatient visits, including ambulatory surgeries, and input data into the hospital information system.

• Code inpatient visits as necessary, utilizing relevant knowledge and experience.

• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of abstracted hospital information fields by cross-referencing with the paper medical record and making necessary corrections.

• Prioritize coding and abstracting tasks for both outpatient and inpatient encounters to ensure coding remains up to date.

• Engage with physicians or their office staff in cases where documentation lacks clarity or is insufficient.

• Uphold coding expertise through self-directed ongoing education.

• Stay informed about current trends, updates, and alterations in coding policies and procedures.

• Deliver care and services tailored to the demographic served within the designated unit or work area.

• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from AHIMA; or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) from AAPC; or Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) from the Radiology Coding Certification Board.

• High School diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum of one to two years of coding experience.

• If designated as Interventional Radiology Coder: at least one to two years of outpatient Interventional Radiology coding experience.

• Proficiency in operating a codefinder.
