This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.
• Operating from your home office in South Carolina, certified School Counselors will provide virtual assistance to students and their parents/learning coaches regarding course selection, scheduling, and will serve as the primary point of contact for student concerns that encompass various academic and non-academic issues.
• The School Counselor will gain expertise in course and credit requirements while establishing counseling processes tailored for middle and high school students.
• Guide students and families concerning academics, career planning, and graduation requirements;
• Stay updated on all high school graduation prerequisites, including special stipulations such as community service, and relay this information to the High School Coordinator and the principal;
• Aid students and parents in navigating the secondary school course selection process in alignment with specific state credit and graduation requirements as well as student interests and needs.
• A critical component of this process involves helping students and parents formulate a Four Year Plan to fulfill graduation criteria;
• Counsel students on matters related to dropping courses and modifying schedules, seeking additional support as necessary, while ensuring compliance with the school's course selection and drop policies;
• Analyze student transcripts and oversee the entry of credits into the online transcript system;
• Adhere to procedures that guarantee the accuracy and timeliness of Connections Academy transcripts;
• Collaborate with administrative assistants to acquire school records from students’ previous institutions (when applicable) and forward student records as needed;
• Implement initiatives for students and families that address interpersonal adjustment challenges;
• Collaborate with school teams to identify and assist families in accessing school and community resources;
• Engage in the formulation of crisis prevention and management strategies for the school and play a vital role on the Student Support Team (SST);
• Coordinate with a team of middle and high school educators to identify students who are considered "at risk" or "in crisis";
• Serve as the main point of contact for these students and their families, maintaining regular communication;
• Supervise and update the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student;
• Ensure the collection of complete and accurate records for Connections Academy students;
• Assist families during the school withdrawal process, gathering data related to the withdrawal;
• Report and refer critical incidents that threaten student safety as mandated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.
• Remain knowledgeable about all state regulations pertaining to incident reporting and documentation;
• Support teachers when students enroll mid-semester, ensuring they receive guidance to integrate into their coursework, while managing previous grades, credits, and evaluations appropriately;
• Communicate with the Curriculum Team to assure that curriculum offerings comply with state requirements;
• Implement specialized programs including Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT Preparation, and college entrance guidance;
• Understand the requirements for and assist the principal in administering all high school assessments, including exit exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP examinations;
• Aid students in researching and understanding their post-secondary career and educational pathways;
• Support students in preparing applications for colleges and job opportunities;
• Educate students and parents about college admission criteria and financial aid;
• Facilitate professional development initiatives for teachers and school staff;
• Assume teaching and grading responsibilities as needed, including instructing middle school elective courses;
• Organize high school graduation ceremonies; and
• Other duties as assigned.
• Certification in School Counseling from South Carolina
• Proficient technology skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
• Outstanding communication abilities, both verbal and written
