This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Take ownership of the business lending P&L and strategy: Define the multi-year strategy, including which products to develop, which segments to target, and how to increase originations in line with economic and credit objectives. Take responsibility for the financial outcomes.
• Build and expand the lending organization: Recruit, nurture, and lead a high-performing product management team, instill strong product development discipline, cultivate future leaders, and establish the operational rhythm and culture that enable a lending business to operate swiftly without compromising on rigor.
• Transition products from conception to scale: Launch and enhance Mercury's lending offerings—such as term loans, lines of credit, and future products—while creating an experimentation cycle that accelerates growth after launch.
• Collaborate with credit, underwriting, and risk on credit policies, underwriting frameworks, and eligibility criteria.
• Oversee capital and lending relationships: Partner with finance, capital markets, and banking/lending associates to ensure the business remains well-capitalized and scalable, while managing those relationships effectively.
• Balance growth with thoroughness: Develop a lending business that delights customers while adhering to the credit, risk, and compliance standards necessary for a regulated product—making challenging decisions between speed, customer experience, and regulatory controls.
• Unify the lending ecosystem: Integrate product, engineering, underwriting, risk, credit operations, data, compliance, legal, marketing, sales, support, and external partners to implement a cohesive lending strategy and achieve strong business results.
• Over 10 years of experience in lending or credit products, particularly in SMB, commercial, or business lending, with a focus on team building and management.
• More than 5 years of experience in leading and managing product management teams, including responsibilities for hiring, coaching, organizational design, and performance oversight.
• Extensive understanding of the complete lending lifecycle: eligibility, application, underwriting and decision-making, funding, servicing, repayment, and collections—along with the associated credit, risk, and compliance aspects at each phase.
• Proven history of owning a lending P&L and managing its components: pricing, credit policy, capital structure, loss performance, and unit economics.
• Experience in launching and scaling lending or credit products from 0-1, preferably in a fintech or rapidly growing setting.
• Direct experience collaborating with bank partners, lending partners, or capital markets to structure and finance a lending business.
• Strong judgment in a regulated, risk-sensitive context: the ability to balance an excellent customer experience with the necessary controls for a credit product.
• A data-driven, experimentation-focused mindset, with exceptional cross-functional leadership skills across product, underwriting, finance, compliance, and partnerships.
