• **About Whizz** Whizz is North America's leading e-bike subscription service catering to gig delivery workers. We provide well-maintained, insured e-bikes to independent couriers on a monthly subscription basis. Operating across six states, with New York being our primary market, we employ over 100 individuals.

• **Purpose of the Role** The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing the company's finance and accounting functions. This operational role prioritizes precise reporting, disciplined budgeting, and financial oversight in a physical, asset-heavy business.

• **Responsibilities**

• **Financial reporting.** Ensure the preparation and accuracy of the profit & loss statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet. Manage the monthly close process to guarantee that the reporting package is consistent, reconciled, and usable by management.

• **Inventory and fleet accounting.** Manage how inventory and fixed assets are recorded in the financial statements. This includes enhancing the capitalization and depreciation policy for bikes, batteries, and spare parts, overseeing the fixed asset register, accounting for disposals and write-offs, and reconciling operational inventory records with the general ledger.

• **Budgeting and financial model.** Maintain the company’s financial model for internal planning. Collaborate with department heads to build annual and quarterly budgets, monitor actual performance against plans, and report variances with suggested corrective measures.

• **Financial control.** Establish the financial control framework, including approval and authorization processes, expenditure controls, segregation of duties, and regular oversight of cash, receivables, and payables.

• **Team and external partners.** Supervise in-house accountants and the outsourced accounting firm, delineate responsibilities, and ensure adherence to agreed deadlines and quality benchmarks.

• **Compliance and operations.** Oversee payroll, multi-state tax registrations and filings, statutory reporting, and audit preparedness. Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and payment processing operations.

• **Cross-functional Work** The Head of Finance collaborates directly with operations, supply chain, and product teams on initiatives such as pricing adjustments, new city launches, vendor contracts, warehouse and inventory management, and payment system modifications. The role requires identifying and resolving the financial and accounting implications of these projects during the design phase.

• - 7+ years of experience in accounting and finance, including a background in managing a complete monthly close as Controller, Head of Finance, or a similar role.

• - Familiarity with the US market.

• - Experience in inventory and fixed asset accounting within a physical business.

• - Knowledge of multi-state payroll and tax compliance.

• - Experience in managing accounting personnel and outsourced service providers.

• - History of working in an organization where processes were developed rather than simply maintained.

• - Proficient systems skills, including experience with accounting system implementation or migration.
