Head of Engineering – Crypto BU

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Indonesia.

📋 Description

• Oversee and expand several engineering teams responsible for backend systems and platform services that support Ajaib’s Crypto operations.

• Develop and implement an engineering strategy that aligns with company and business goals.

• Influence architectural choices and guarantee that engineering teams produce secure, scalable, and resilient systems.

• Promote engineering excellence throughout software design, development, deployment, and production operations.

• Establish and advocate for best practices in reliability, observability, performance optimization, security, and incident management.

• Recruit, mentor, and cultivate high-performing engineering managers and senior engineers.

• Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, continuous learning, and collaboration.

• Set explicit performance expectations while providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and career development assistance.

• Lead workforce planning and organizational design to accommodate rapid business expansion.

• Offer hands-on architectural guidance for distributed systems, microservices, cloud infrastructure, and event-driven architectures.

• Evaluate critical technical designs to ensure they align with the long-term platform strategy.

• Propel modernization initiatives that improve scalability, performance, and developer productivity.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data, Compliance, and Business leaders to establish priorities and implement strategic initiatives.

• Manage expectations, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across various teams and stakeholders.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership regarding engineering and technology decisions.

• Oversee engineering execution and delivery outcomes within the Crypto division.

• Ensure teams achieve predictable delivery while balancing speed, quality, and technical debt.

• Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, planning, and operational excellence.

• Support hiring initiatives and resource allocation to achieve business objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, with significant exposure to large-scale distributed systems.

• More than 5 years of engineering leadership experience managing engineering managers and senior technical teams.

• Demonstrated success in leading multiple engineering teams in rapidly growing technology organizations.

• Strong foundation in building and operating large-scale consumer-facing platforms.

• Experience in fintech, payments, lending, wealth management, investments, crypto, or other regulated financial services environments (highly preferred).

• Experience in fast-paced, product-driven organizations serving millions of users.

• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Golang.

• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native architectures, and event-driven systems.

• Familiarity with SQL databases, caching technologies, messaging systems, and high-traffic backend services.

• Strong understanding of reliability engineering, observability, security, and performance optimization.

• Familiarity with modern cloud platforms and DevOps practices.

• Exceptional people leadership and coaching skills.

• Strong strategic thinking and organizational leadership abilities.

• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Ability to influence at all organizational levels.

• Strong decision-making skills in complex and ambiguous situations.
