Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the development and expansion of the engineering organization, which includes hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing performance.

• Collaborate with executive leadership to define and implement the engineering strategy.

• Set engineering standards, establish development processes, and cultivate a culture of technical excellence.

• Provide architectural guidance across backend systems, infrastructure, internal tools, and customer-facing applications.

• Work closely with Product, Design, Operations, and Leadership teams to ensure alignment of technical execution with business objectives.

• Manage engineering planning, resource distribution, and delivery for various initiatives.

• Develop scalable, reliable, secure, and high-performance systems to accommodate rapid user growth.

• Engage in architecture reviews, code reviews, technical design discussions, and hands-on development.

• Direct technical decisions while maintaining a balance between product velocity, scalability, and operational excellence.

• Attract and retain engineering talent while fostering an inclusive and collaborative engineering culture.

• Supervise the engineering organization and translate company priorities into scalable technical solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Prior experience in leading engineering teams as a Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, Engineering Manager, or in a similar technical leadership position.

• Proven track record of hiring, mentoring, and scaling engineering teams.

• Strong expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and contemporary web technologies.

• Experience in delivering intricate software products from conception to production.

• Comprehensive understanding of engineering operations, development workflows, testing methodologies, and system reliability.

• Proficient in both written and spoken English and Portuguese.

• Knowledge of fundamental U.S. laws and regulatory issues impacting software products, including privacy, security, and compliance.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.

• Familiarity with AI-driven products, machine learning systems, or data platforms.

• Preferred: experience leading engineering during periods of hypergrowth.

• Preferred: experience in scaling products that serve millions of users.

• Preferred: familiarity with AWS and MongoDB.

• Preferred: experience in building globally distributed engineering teams.
