Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• The Head of Engineering is responsible for overseeing delivery execution, engineering performance, and operational excellence across all engineering streams at Altery.

• Manage all Delivery Leads, including hiring, coaching, and supporting career progression, while fostering a culture of accountability and quality.

• Oversee the Delivery Governance function, ensuring adherence to standards, processes, and predictable execution in alignment with committed roadmaps across every stream.

• Act as the Major Incident Commander, responsible for release management, incident response, and ensuring compliance with DORA / FCA operational resilience.

• Promote the adoption of AI within engineering, from capacity planning to incident detection, and measure the productivity improvements it generates.

• Allocate engineering resources across streams, balancing delivery with technical debt, while also managing cloud cost efficiency.

• Develop competency frameworks and career ladders, while collaboratively managing the Developer Experience program with Platform Leads.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading engineering organizations at scale, with a proven track record as a manager-of-managers.

• Background in fintech, payments, banking, SaaS, crypto, or other highly regulated, high-growth sectors.

• Proficient in delivery frameworks such as DORA / DevOps metrics, SPACE, Developer Experience, and flow metrics, along with modern CI/CD practices.

• Familiarity with DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act), FCA Operational Resilience requirements, and incident management within regulated settings.

• Practical experience in driving AI adoption within an engineering organization, with a method to assess improvements.

• Ability to make calm and structured decisions under pressure, demonstrating strong stakeholder management and commercial insight.
