This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.
• Lead, uphold, and consistently improve Emerald’s worldwide privacy framework, encompassing policies, procedures, and operational processes.
• Supervise and coordinate privacy operations that support Emerald’s global clinical trials, particularly focusing on the APAC, EU, and US regions.
• Conduct and manage assessments of data transfer impacts and oversee mechanisms for cross-border data transfers.
• Provide daily privacy support throughout the organization, including responding to internal inquiries, assisting with customer audits, and advising on data retention and local privacy obligations.
• Review, negotiate, and provide counsel on data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, security annexes, and associated contractual documentation.
• Maintain and oversee Emerald’s records of processing activities.
• Own and manage requests regarding data subject rights, data incident risk assessments, and breach notification procedures.
• Assist Legal with privacy-related complaints, investigations, and potential litigation, including necessary interactions with regulators.
• Perform privacy compliance reviews and present findings to relevant internal stakeholders.
• Advise on privacy requirements for new business initiatives, including reviewing privacy notices and compliance with regulations.
• Support the Group General Counsel on complex or escalated privacy issues.
• Design and implement ongoing privacy training for Emerald personnel worldwide.
• Collaborate effectively across regions and time zones, appropriately escalating issues to internal leadership or external counsel as necessary.
• A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in privacy and data protection within a dynamic, multinational, regulated environment.
• Strong practical understanding of APAC and EU/UK data protection regulations, with a desirable familiarity with US privacy laws.
• Proven experience in managing APAC privacy frameworks, including PDPA, PIPL, and the Australian Privacy Act, in addition to cross-border data transfer challenges.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or CRO sectors is highly advantageous.
• Strong skills in drafting and negotiating: Data processing and data transfer agreements, vendor and commercial contracts, and internal privacy policies and procedures.
• A pragmatic, business-focused approach, capable of managing competing priorities across various jurisdictions and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication abilities, able to convey complex legal and technical concepts to non-legal colleagues, senior leaders, and regulators.
• A high degree of independence and accountability, with the capacity to work remotely while maintaining close connections with global teams.

• A degree in Law, Business, or a related field, with additional qualifications in data protection or privacy preferred.
