
Geospatial Platform Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Own the architecture of the geospatial platform, including cloud-native data (STAC, cloud-optimized formats), the serving and tiling layer (e.g., TiTiler), and the pipelines that scale model and map outputs.
• Translate scientific outputs into dependable, version-controlled data products and interfaces for applications, partners, and the general public.
• Establish engineering standards, such as Infrastructure-as-Code on AWS; ensure the platform's reliability, security, and interoperability; and manage the roadmap for scalability.
• Collaborate with teams that generate our data and analytics to align goals, schemas, and delivery patterns, ensuring product and platform interfaces are consistent.
• Provide technical leadership by guiding cloud-native geospatial developers, coordinating efforts across Science, Applications, and Engineering teams, and mentoring team members.
• Maintain the platform's data to be discoverable, reproducible, and operationally reliable for the applications, APIs, and partners that utilize it.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in geospatial science, computer science, engineering, environmental or earth science, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
• A minimum of five years of experience in building and operating cloud-native geospatial or data platforms, or equivalent depth of experience.
• Proficiency in Python and production software best practices, including Git, testing, and CI/CD methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (our primary cloud provider) and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Familiarity with cloud-native geospatial formats and serving technologies (COG, GeoParquet, STAC/pgSTAC, TiTiler, or similar).
• A proven history of establishing technical direction and mentoring engineers.
