This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on matters related to legal, regulatory, and enterprise risk, encompassing equity, financing, and corporate governance.
• Build, lead, and nurture Waymark's legal team, creating scalable processes and systems as the organization expands.
• Oversee complex corporate legal matters and commercial contracts, including value-based care agreements, vendor and supply contracts, and strategic partnerships.
• Design, implement, and manage a thorough compliance program that addresses HIPAA/privacy, fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA), the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), along with other healthcare regulations at the state and federal levels.
• Take ownership of Waymark's privacy program, ensuring appropriate policies, controls, and cross-functional practices for the management of sensitive patient and member data.
• Supervise Waymark's information security operations, collaborating with technology teams on security policies, incident response, and vendor risk management.
• Establish and oversee enterprise risk management protocols tailored for a scaling healthcare technology company, actively identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory, and operational risks.
• Provide clear, practical, and innovative legal advice to stakeholders across the organization, often under tight deadlines and in uncertain situations.
• Must hold a valid bar admission and be in good standing, or possess other authorization to practice law (such as registered in-house status), in the state where the position is based.
• A minimum of 15 years of legal experience, including substantial in-house leadership experience, preferably in healthcare, health tech, or another regulated sector.
• Proven track record in building and leading a legal function—comprising compliance and privacy programs—from inception.
• Demonstrated experience in advising C-suite executives and/or a Board of Directors on strategic, legal, and risk-related issues.
• Experience in managing and developing legal and compliance team members.
