General Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Offer comprehensive legal leadership and strategic guidance to the executive leadership team and heads of the Company's business lines and functions, shaping pivotal business decisions and risk management strategies.

• Lead, develop, and supervise the performance of all legal department attorneys and staff, ensuring the highest levels of professional excellence.

• Oversee all legal operations that support the Company's business, including commercial and consumer lending, special assets, bankruptcy, retail branch support, regulatory compliance, litigation management, employment, intellectual property, data privacy, real estate, as well as garnishments, levies, and subpoenas.

• Provide advice on and lead the Company's most intricate and high-impact transactions, litigation, and dispute resolution matters.

• Manage the selection and performance of outside counsel relationships, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal representation.

• Supervise all regulatory matters, actively monitor legal and regulatory changes, and guarantee the implementation and maintenance of robust compliance and governance frameworks.

• Develop and execute Company-wide legal policies; act as the legal lead on major corporate projects and cross-functional initiatives.

• Collaborate with the General Counsel to establish the strategic direction for the legal department, including the development and execution of the legal department’s strategic plan and budget.

• Cultivate a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the legal department, providing coaching, development, and performance management for all direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited US law school; must be licensed to practice in South Carolina or Georgia.

• Over 15 years of relevant experience in both law firm and in-house legal department roles within a financial institution.

• Proficiency in all major legal disciplines pertinent to financial institutions, including finance, lending, deposits, commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, and litigation management.

• Proven track record of advising and influencing executive leadership on high-stakes legal and business issues.

• Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; capable of inspiring and guiding teams through organizational transformations and growth.

• Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Must successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check.
