GCP Operations Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Manage and sustain production GCP environments, ensuring the availability, performance, and scalability of essential applications and services.

• Implement and oversee Infrastructure as Code through tools like Terraform, Deployment Manager, or similar, facilitating repeatable and auditable deployments.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation utilizing tools such as Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or their equivalents.

• Design and implement solutions for monitoring, alerting, and observability using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Prometheus, Grafana, and associated tools.

• Diagnose and resolve production incidents; conduct root cause analysis and initiate corrective and preventive measures to enhance system reliability.

• Oversee networking, load balancing, VPN/Interconnect, VPCs, Cloud DNS, and other GCP networking components.

• Configure and manage compute, storage, and database services (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, BigQuery) while adhering to best practices for security and cost optimization.

• Establish and maintain identity, access, and security controls using Cloud IAM, Secrets Manager, KMS, and integrate with enterprise identity providers.

• Automate operational tasks and runbooks using scripting (Python, Bash, Go) and orchestration frameworks to minimize manual effort.

• Engage in on-call rotations and ensure timely incident response and communication with stakeholders during incidents.

• Collaborate with developers, platform engineers, and security teams to foster continuous improvement, capacity planning, and cost management.

• Create and maintain high-quality operational documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and post-incident reports.

• Contribute to cloud migration, modernization, and platform standardization initiatives, assisting in defining operational standards and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a Cloud Operations or Site Reliability Engineer, with practical operational experience in Google Cloud Platform.

• Hands-on experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud IAM, and networking components.

• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform) and configuration management tools.

• Strong scripting abilities (Python, Bash, Go, or similar) and experience in automating operational tasks.

• Experience in building and maintaining observability and monitoring systems (Cloud Monitoring, Logging, Prometheus, Grafana) and managing alerts and SLIs/SLOs.

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools (Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Argo CD) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE).

• Solid understanding of cloud networking, security controls, identity management, and best practices for encryption.

• Proven capability to troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with experience in cross-functional and international collaboration.

• Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud Security Engineer, or equivalent) are beneficial.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proficient in English (C1 or above); knowledge of Bulgarian is a plus but not mandatory.
