This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and support of features and systems with medium complexity.

• Decompose larger tasks into manageable pieces, provide initial estimates, and collaborate on implementation with one or two other engineers.

• Keep active development, code reviews, automated testing, feedback, and inquiries running in parallel to ensure consistent progress.

• Convert product and creative objectives into effective technical solutions.

• Early identification of dependencies, risks, edge cases, and trade-offs is essential.

• Produce defensive, readable, maintainable, high-quality code that is well-tested, adhering to team conventions.

• Troubleshoot challenging bugs and technical issues utilizing debuggers, profilers, logs, source control, documentation, and various other tools.

• Work independently in a large or unfamiliar codebase.

• Maintain current statuses, estimates, and Jira tickets throughout the sprints.

• Communicate updates, risks, dependencies, and requests for assistance effectively.

• Collaborate across engineering, design, art, production, QA, and other team channels.

• Support the overall team’s success without holding formal management responsibilities.


⛳️ Requirements

• Significant professional experience in developing and delivering production software within a collaborative setting.

• Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with C#.

• Expertise in at least three game engineering areas, such as gameplay, UI, animation, graphics, performance optimization, networking, online services, web development, tools, or automated testing.

• Proven ability to manage medium-complexity features or systems from technical design through deployment and ongoing support.

• Strong debugging capabilities, resourcefulness, and systems thinking.

• Dedication to code quality, testing, maintainability, defensive programming, and adherence to team best practices.

• Capability to work independently in a large or interconnected codebase while remaining receptive to feedback.

• Clear, direct, professional, and concise communication skills.

• 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.

• A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is beneficial but not mandatory if equivalent professional experience is evident.

• Experience with at least one shipped commercial game or another significant production release is preferred.

• Familiarity with shipping a AAA project is desirable.

• Experience across multiple platforms, including PC or console, is a plus.

• Knowledge of performance optimization, memory management, multithreading, networking, backend services, tools, automated testing, build systems, or development workflows is advantageous.

• Experience mentoring engineers or enhancing team documentation, processes, and coding practices is a plus.

• Direct experience working with clients or external development partners is a plus.
