Full Stack Engineer – Rust
Posted Jul 28

Posted Jul 28
This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take full ownership of features across the entire stack - including front-end (React/TypeScript), cloud API (Go/LiftCloud), and Rust services - with a primary focus on Rust in this role.
• Engage in in-depth Rust development for the VTS (Vendor Translation Services) layer and the LiftNet client/server re-architecture, where your expertise will be most valuable.
• Extend and enhance the Go cloud API while developing the user interface that interacts with it, ensuring API contracts and data formats remain consistent throughout the stack.
• Create data-rich, real-time interfaces such as dashboards, map views, and status panels that are both performant and user-friendly for operators and field technicians on both desktop and tablet platforms.
• Design and implement components for client/server distributed systems that align with the LiftNet re-architecture.
• Work across the entire architecture, including the edge layer (Raspberry Pi, binary/serial protocols), the VTS translation layer, the Go cloud, and AWS (EC2, PostgreSQL/RDS, QuestDB).
• Operate, debug, and secure the Linux-based services running on edge devices and in the cloud.
• Integrate and translate protocols from industrial/OT controllers (OPC UA, Modbus, serial).
• Develop regression validation against established datasets and conduct packet-level (Wireshark) verification to support the LN2 Integrator initiative.
• Assist in setting up the AWS environment (Dev/Staging/QA) and enhancing security groups as part of the SOC 2 readiness effort.
• Collaborate with the principal engineer and another full-stack engineer to share ownership across the stack, minimizing daily escalation issues.
• Manage daily responsibilities across front-end, cloud, and Rust services independently, without needing assistance from the principal engineer.
• Ensure timely and predictable delivery of committed customer features.
• Take independent responsibility for at least one vertical domain (from UI to Rust service) within the initial months.
• Mitigate key-person risk within the VTS, Rust backend, and front-end.
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; a Master's degree and additional engineering credentials are advantageous.
• 5-7 years of Rust engineering experience with a high level of competency.
• Genuine full-stack capability: practical experience in building front-ends using React/TypeScript and developing server-side APIs (familiarity with Go in the cloud is essential).
• Experience in designing client/server distributed systems aligned with the LiftNet 3 direction.
• Proven ability to work autonomously - capable of managing a domain end-to-end with minimal guidance (this is non-negotiable for the position).
• Comfort with the complete architecture: the edge layer (Raspberry Pi, binary/serial), the VTS layer, the Go cloud, and AWS (EC2, PostgreSQL/RDS, QuestDB).
• Extensive hands-on Linux expertise - including operating, debugging, and securing Linux systems from the command line (systems, process/network/file-system troubleshooting, bash scripting, log analysis); both edge devices (Raspberry Pi) and cloud services (EC2) run on Linux.
• Proficient in building, packaging, and deploying services on Linux - including cross-compilation for ARM/edge targets, containers, and standard build toolchains.
• Front-end proficiency in creating data-heavy, real-time user interfaces - such as mapping (Mapbox GL/Leaflet-class), live status displays, and performance optimization of dense views (this is a plus).
• A mindset geared towards test automation - including regression validation against established datasets and packet-level (Wireshark) verification (this is a plus).
• Familiarity with industrial/OT protocols - including OPC UA, Modbus, and serial integration (this is a plus).
• Fluency in AWS infrastructure - including environment replication (Dev/Staging/QA) and security group hardening (this is a plus).
• A pragmatic approach suited for a small, fast-paced company; prioritizing automation, maintaining low ego, and communicating with a bottom-line focus.
• Medical insurance with one HSA and two PPO plan options.
• Flex Spending Account (FSA)/Dependent Care FSA.
• Dental, vision, life, and both short- and long-term disability insurance.
• Critical illness and hospital indemnity plans.
• 401k with company contributions.
• Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
• Company-paid telemedicine with 24/7 access.
• Wellness Program.
• Employee discount program.
• Eight paid holidays plus one floating holiday.
• Fifteen days of paid time off (PTO) accrued in the first year.
• Generous referral bonus program.
• Emphasis on work-life balance (a must!).
• Team-building opportunities, participation in our annual kickoff each January, and other enjoyable events.
• Relaxed professional dress code.
