Freelance/Contract - Technical Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Deliver comprehensive technical leadership for backend services that support a multi-application mobile ecosystem.

• Collaborate effectively with engineers, Product Managers, clients, and vendors.

• Direct architectural choices and guarantee the secure, scalable, and maintainable implementation of mobile backend solutions.

• Specify and document technical requirements for mobile backend features.

• Lead architectural strategies and execution for both consumer-facing and store associate-facing applications.

• Ensure the production of high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code through both technical oversight and active development.

• Sustain and update technical documentation to accurately represent existing systems and procedures.

• Formulate strategies to address backend security issues, including real-time responses to malicious activities and adherence to data deletion policies.

• Act as a principal technical contact for client and vendor teams.

• Address non-emergency technical inquiries during ET business hours (9am–3pm).

• Manage emergency support responsibilities during designated off-hours (weekday evenings and weekends).

• Represent the engineering team in cross-functional meetings.

• Provide leadership for projects and operational guidance for backend developers in partnership with product managers.

• Establish and uphold backend coding standards, conduct code reviews, and maintain the CI/CD pipeline.

• Mentor engineers, promote a collaborative culture, and drive continuous improvement within the engineering team.

• Uphold secure coding practices and architectural standards across backend systems.

• Oversee workflows for client-driven data deletion while safeguarding against vulnerabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science.

• At least 6 years of experience in backend engineering roles, including over 2 years in a technical leadership position.

• Proven expertise in mobile backend systems and API development.

• Extensive knowledge of: AWS, Node.js, Salesforce, OCAPI/API, and third-party integrations for mobile CMS-driven content systems.

• Demonstrated experience with backend deployment workflows and CI/CD management.

• Exceptional aptitude for analyzing and resolving technical challenges with scalable solutions.

• Strong communication skills with clients and proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams.

• Experience working within Agile product teams.

• Strong command of English, proficient in conveying both confidence and humility in communication.

• Familiarity with high-scale consumer-facing mobile applications.

• Knowledge of e-commerce security standards and architectural patterns.

• Availability during US Eastern Time business hours and for emergency support as needed.
