Freelance Consultant – SME, Underground Infrastructure, Electrical, Construction Specialist – Metals & Mining

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil, +2 more countries.

📋 Description

• Examine and assess procedures related to underground infrastructure and utility systems.

• Evaluate protocols for medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.

• Review underground substations, electrical installations, and the commissioning of equipment.

• Assess isolation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energization, and de-energization procedures.

• Evaluate underground pumping, dewatering, compressed air, water distribution, and utility systems.

• Review procedures for underground communications infrastructure and material handling.

• Assess lifting, rigging, hot work, and construction-related activities.

• Evaluate requirements for testing, commissioning, and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR).

• Review Management of Change (MoC) processes and requirements for construction-to-operations handover.

• Identify discrepancies between engineering requirements, construction activities, and operational execution.

• Facilitate workshops with teams from engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, safety, and contractors.

• Offer recommendations to enhance operational and safety risk management controls.

• Convert engineering requirements, operational conditions, Critical Controls, commissioning activities, and construction-to-operations interfaces into actionable procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in mining projects, mine construction, infrastructure development, or mining operations.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in supporting underground mine infrastructure, construction, or development activities.

• Experience in the construction, expansion, development, or commissioning of underground mining operations.

• Proficiency in collaborating with contractors during underground construction and installation activities.

• Hands-on experience with commissioning, energization, and operational readiness processes.

• Prior involvement in the development, review, or implementation of operational procedures, standards, or management systems.

• Experience in conducting technical reviews, audits, operational assessments, or risk evaluations.

• Capability to review engineering requirements and translate them into executable operational procedures.

• Ability to assess both temporary and permanent underground installations.

• Skill in identifying interfaces and risks associated with construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operations.

• Proficiency in defining safe systems for isolation, testing, energization, commissioning, and handover activities.

• Ability to establish operational hold points, verification requirements, and authorization criteria.

• Capability to integrate PSSR and MoC requirements into operational procedures.

• Skill in conducting field inspections and effectively engaging with contractors and owner teams.

• Ability to facilitate technical workshops involving engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, commissioning, and safety stakeholders.

• Proficiency in defining clear roles and responsibilities across contractor and owner organizations.

• Strong technical writing skills in English.

• Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

• Mining Engineering professionals with significant underground infrastructure experience will also be considered.

• Professional Engineering registration or equivalent certification, if applicable.

• Fluency in English is required.

• Proficiency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is highly advantageous.
