Fractional Chief Risk Officer – Investments

📋 Description

• Offer expert advice and guidance to Arootah clients seeking assistance with their investment and portfolio management risk requirements. This includes consulting with some of the world's leading Hedge Funds and Family Offices while leveraging your experience as a Chief Risk Officer in Investments to assist clients in:

• Formulating realistic and actionable monthly plans.

• Recognizing internal and contextual obstacles.

• Decomposing goals into implementable steps.

• Crafting a strategic plan for achieving each goal.

• Supplying clients with resources necessary for executing their action plans.

• Establishing policies, procedures, and control measures.

• Reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on client tools and resources to ensure adherence to industry best practices.

• Assessing each client's progress towards goal realization through key performance indicators (KPIs) and scoring matrices.

• Maintaining and sharing precise records of consulting outcomes (challenges, breakthroughs, etc.).

• Analyzing portfolio and investment risk utilizing various quantitative models/techniques and examining the impact of potential investment choices on overall portfolio risk.

• Developing, maintaining, and updating tools within the investment risk framework to evaluate individual investments and portfolios.

• Identifying and assessing risks, while conducting stress tests across diverse asset classes, strategies, portfolios, and managers.

• Executing market and credit risk reporting and analysis for all investment activities, including VaR, stress loss, operational guidelines, transactional reviews, and liquidity risk.

• Overseeing daily monitoring of exposures and utilization against limits, as well as tracking P&L stemming from market fluctuations and conducting additional ad-hoc analyses.

• Aiding in the refinement of methodologies for calculating, monitoring, and managing risk in investment portfolios.

• Creating and implementing optimization models to guide Portfolio Managers in allocation decisions.

• Designing and producing periodic risk reports for senior management and portfolio stakeholders.

• Carrying out ad-hoc analyses that require independent research and proficiency in various programming languages.

• Participating in the identification and assessment of new risk strategies and technologies.

• Measuring, monitoring, and independently evaluating risks associated with investment activities, escalating issues and concerns to Portfolio Managers as needed.

• Monitoring stress, performance, counterparty, and liquidity metrics against thresholds and conducting risk analysis on accounts that trigger these thresholds.

• Assisting in the development of ESG metrics monitoring.

• Ensuring compliance with risk oversight processes, policies, and procedures related to investment risk.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

• Desired professional designations include Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), or similar.

• An MBA or other relevant graduate degrees in a quantitative discipline is a plus.

• Over 8 years of pertinent experience at a hedge fund, family office, or investment management firm in the capacity of Chief Risk Officer.

• Additional experience ranging from 3-5 years in risk management, trading, portfolio management, or data science roles within an asset management firm, hedge fund, or family office.

• Familiarity with risk analysis applications such as MSCI’s BarraOne, Blackrock Aladdin, FactSet, or similar. Strong quantitative/statistical aptitude with the capability to work on systems and databases (SQL, Access).

• Demonstrated programming skills in languages such as R, MATLAB, Python, VBA, C#, etc.

• Comprehensive product knowledge and quantitative skills across various asset classes and investment strategies.

• Understanding of market risk methodologies including VaR, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.

• Strong familiarity with asset/liability management.

• Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
