
Forward Deployed Engineer – Migration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Facilitate discovery sessions to gain insights into customers’ legacy systems, source platforms, data architectures, and OSS/BSS layers.
• Evaluate and devise migration strategies, documenting the scope, data mappings, constraints, and cutover plans.
• Assist customers and internal teams in comprehending migration trade-offs and setting priorities.
• Investigate unknown source systems and extract data through SQL, APIs, manual exports, and backups.
• Convert data into Gaiia’s standard format utilizing declarative mapping files.
• Upload and verify data against target schemas, reconcile outcomes, and import data.
• Organize and execute cutovers, including delta migrations, downtime considerations, and rollback procedures.
• Supervise production data and address discrepancies post go-live.
• Manage migration relationships throughout the entire process from discovery to post-cutover stabilization.
• Develop repeatable processes and reusable resources such as templates, mapping rules, and playbooks.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for internal teams regarding customer data and migration factors.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape the migration tooling roadmap.
• Contribute to engineering enhancements for migration tools.
• 4–6+ years of experience in customer-facing implementation/solutioning and hands-on data or software engineering.
• Proficient SQL skills.
• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript (Node) expertise.
• Solid understanding of ETL principles, including staging, repeatable/idempotent loads, full versus incremental loads, validation, and reconciliation.
• Proven experience managing technical projects with external stakeholders, including scope, timelines, and expectations.
• Familiarity with complex, poorly documented legacy systems.
• Knowledge of OSS/BSS, telecom, or billing/CRM data models, or the ability to quickly adapt to unfamiliar domain models.
• Exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including clients.
• Comfortable making decisions regarding technical and customer trade-offs.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the US for key customer engagements and go-lives.
