Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Work directly at the customer’s location. Develop high-quality production agents, integrations, and data pipelines using Redpanda ADP, ensuring functionality within the customer's environment and codebase. Your deliverables must be operational even after your departure.

• Adapt swiftly to new challenges. Each customer project presents a unique codebase, data landscape, and constraints. Quickly familiarize yourself with the existing setup, build upon it, and ensure stability.

• Take ownership of the technical deliverables. Comprehend the expected outcomes of the engagement, devise a technical strategy, implement it, and ensure a clean handoff — well-documented, maintainable, and fully operational in production.

• Act as the technical representative of Redpanda with the customer’s engineering team. Collaborate closely with them on a daily basis, build trust, and ensure seamless integration with their existing systems and future maintenance.

• Focus on a smooth exit from the start. Construct solutions with the handoff in mind. Produce user-friendly documentation for their team and provide training on your build. Avoid creating dependencies on your presence.

• Share insights and feedback. Recognize trends across engagements — what customers frequently need to develop, challenges posed by ADP, and elements that could be productized. Communicate these findings back to Product and Engineering effectively.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong engineering expertise. You have experience writing production software and building backend systems, data pipelines, APIs, or agent systems that have been deployed in real-world scenarios, where failures had tangible consequences. Your programming language background can vary; what’s crucial is your ability to create functional solutions.

• Experience with agents and integrations. You have developed agents, utilized LLM APIs, or constructed integrations between complex systems. You understand the factors that contribute to an agent's reliability versus its fragility and have made those distinctions in production environments.

• Capability to operate in diverse environments. You have experience working within someone else's codebase, under constraints you did not set, and in a technology stack you did not select. You can read unfamiliar code, grasp its functionality, and extend it without compromising stability.

• Proficient in customer-facing communication. You can engage directly with a customer’s engineering team — including leads, architects, and individual contributors — and establish yourself as a credible, trusted technical partner. You do not require a project manager to facilitate communication.

• Experience in a customer site or deployment context. You have been present during challenging live deployments, distinguishing between a demonstration and a production launch.
