Forensic Electrical Engineer, P.E.

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Conduct power system analysis and explore the causes and origins of incidents such as fires, explosions, equipment failures, product malfunctions, lightning strikes, electric shocks, power surges, storms, floods, wind, hail, water intrusion, and construction defects.

• Assess losses and examine loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

• Investigate and evaluate damages and evidence resulting from failures.

• Identify the origins of failures for insurance claims and litigation support.

• Analyze and document findings related to failure analysis and causation.

• Inspect and test evidence in laboratory environments.

• Research failure modes, products, installations, and maintenance concerns linked to findings.

• Collaborate with experts to create comprehensive origin-and-cause reports.

• Act as an expert witness in legal proceedings and depositions.

• Provide guidance and leadership on intricate engineering projects.

• Mentor newer or less experienced team members.

• Record and manage billable hours on a time-and-expense basis.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer.

• Strong foundation in power system analysis.

• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards.

• Experience with equipment and system failures.

• Background in fire origin and cause investigations.

• Skill in analyzing lightning and surge damage.

• Experience with product liability matters.

• Knowledge of construction defects.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory for the resident state.

• Multi-state licensing and/or active NCEES Record is preferred.

• Experience providing expert witness testimony is advantageous.

• Eagerness to expand knowledge in power generation, grids, distribution, over-current protection, arc-fault and ground-fault protection, installation standards of care, and arc mapping.

• Capability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.

• Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop, reach, and work overhead.

• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Capacity to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds.

• Willingness to drive for up to 4 hours per day.
