This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Organize and execute onsite assessments of vendor food safety and quality in collaboration with Internal Stakeholders for prospective vendors.
• Keep the supplier approval schedule up to date and perform re-evaluation audits at the specified intervals.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of vendor risks associated with various product categories and adherence to USDA, FDA, SQF, and BRC regulations and quality benchmarks.
• Generate reports and promptly communicate findings to address identified nonconformities.
• Follow up with suppliers regarding corrective action plans to resolve nonconformance issues.
• Partner with suppliers to enhance service levels, ensure compliance with specifications, and fulfill COA requirements.
• Identify, assess, implement, and report on continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain program.
• Create food safety and quality risk assessment criteria and supplier qualification programs; provide assistance with HACCP and Food Safety Plans when necessary.
• Examine raw-material complaint data to detect trends and opportunities for vendor improvements.
• Ensure that programs, policies, and procedures remain compliant and up-to-date.
• Manage supplier data within the computerized quality management system.
• Work in conjunction with Purchasing personnel to oversee supply-chain vendors.
• Report directly to the VP of Technical Services.
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Meat Science, or a related scientific field.
• Over 5 years of experience in a quality assurance position within a food manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical proficiency in auditing practices.
• Previous experience auditing food companies.
• Knowledge of food safety mitigation techniques addressing microbial, chemical, and foreign material hazards.
• Familiarity with the Dairy, Meat and Poultry, Egg, Seafood, and Food Additives sectors.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP & HARPC, along with experience in implementing Food Safety Management Plans.
• Certification from a recognized HACCP training provider (Meat, Poultry).
• Working knowledge of FDA and USDA titles 21 and 9 concerning GMPs and quality programs.
• Ability to work independently and travel up to 75% of the time.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Capability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong initiative, teamwork, communication, organization, time management, and decision-making abilities.
• Preferred: experience with FSSC 22000, SQF, or BRC audit schemes or certified facilities.
• Preferred: experience as a lead auditor or ASQ Certified Auditor.
