Fire Alarm System Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Review system layouts and collaborate with engineering, project management, and sales teams to ensure successful project execution.

• Conduct field surveys and maintain daily project activity logs.

• Program and commission intricate fire alarm systems until final approval by clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

• Generate comprehensive commissioning and inspection reports in compliance with NFPA standards.

• Diagnose complex issues and resolve them efficiently.

• Complete projects within the established timeline and budget constraints.

• Program systems using laptop computers.

• Assist with oversight of project inventory and manage vehicle inventory effectively.

• Offer support, guidance, and expertise to fellow technicians.

• Help with scheduling and managing project progress in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

• Demonstrate equipment and control unit operations to customers, clarifying system signals and responses.

• Adhere to industry-standard procedures and follow Sciens safety programs and policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety sector.

• Proficiency in programming and commissioning mid-range fire alarm systems independently.

• Capability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision.

• Strong communication skills for effective coordination with onsite contractors.

• Intermediate knowledge of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting issues such as circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions.

• Intermediate computer proficiency related to software usage and installation.

• Ability to demonstrate the proper operation of equipment and control units.

• Intermediate familiarity with NFPA 72 code requirements.

• Intermediate understanding of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code.

• Intermediate knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state-adopted building code.

• Intermediate awareness of Article 760 of NFPA 70 concerning fire systems and circuiting.

• Relevant state, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications as determined by the business.

• NICET I certification.

• Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing requirements, and regulations.

• Ability to interpret fire system design drawings.

• Capacity to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a sense of urgency.

• Ability to work independently with some supervision.

• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.

• Proficient in resolving issues effectively.

• Exceptional organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.

• Physical capability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights, climb ladders, and stand/walk for most of the workday.

• Willingness to travel occasionally overnight as required.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
