FinOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Evaluate AWS and GCP billing, usage, and cost patterns to uncover potential savings

• Execute rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, data transfer optimization, and spot/auto-scaling enhancements

• Drive cost-saving initiatives from identification to actual savings realization

• Develop and uphold tagging policies, cost allocation, chargeback, and showback systems

• Create automated cost reporting, anomaly detection, and alert systems

• Utilize Python, Terraform, Lambda, or similar infrastructure-as-code automation to enforce cost policies

• Collaborate with Engineering on architectural choices and balancing cost against reliability

• Partner with Finance for budget monitoring, forecasting, financial KPIs, reporting, and dashboard creation

• Communicate savings opportunities to engineering, finance, and leadership teams

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth AWS knowledge and practical GCP understanding, including pricing models, billing frameworks, and cost optimization strategies

• Proficiency in automation and scripting using Python, Terraform/Pulumi, Lambda, or Bash

• Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Cost & Usage Reports, GCP Billing Reports, and BI/dashboarding tools; Supabase utilizes Hex

• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Linear and Notion

• Capability to analyze cost data and present findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Previous experience in a FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud governance position

• Experience with specialized cloud cost management platforms such as CloudZero or Vantage is advantageous, though not required

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams without positional authority
