This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Function as a local controller for a consortium of three hospitals and their associated outpatient and medical group facilities.
• Oversee financial accounting for the designated hospital entities.
• Collaborate with leaders in accounting and financial operations.
• Ensure adherence to healthcare-specific U.S. GAAP, GASB standards, and state and federal healthcare regulations.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting closing processes.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, financial statements, balance sheet reviews, and operational reporting packages.
• Supervise the integration of clinical subledgers, including patient billing, revenue cycle management, accounts payable, and payroll into the general ledger.
• Assess accounting workflows, identify inefficiencies, and promote defect reduction.
• Write and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), desk procedures, and local accounting policies.
• Utilize ERP and clinical financial management systems to streamline journal entries and ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain internal controls over healthcare assets.
• Act as the operational contact for both internal and external auditors and manage audit requests.
• Supervise the collection of tax compliance data and healthcare reporting requirements.
• Lead, mentor, and oversee general accountants and financial analysts.
• Coordinate with clinical leadership, department managers, procurement teams, and university accounting stakeholders.
• Assist with Procure-to-Pay accounting, inventory valuation, and supplier invoice reconciliation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in general ledger accounting, financial operations, or controller-level financial management.
• Experience within a hospital system, healthcare consortium, medical group, or a complex multi-entity operating environment.
• At least 2–3 years of experience supervising accounting staff, managing month-end closing schedules, and reviewing team outputs.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and/or GASB standards, accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with operational managers and executive leadership.
• Proficient in Oracle PeopleSoft Financials; familiarity with Workday, Oracle, or SAP is a plus.
• Experience with healthcare EHR/billing integrations.
• Knowledge of Lean, Kaizen, or Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
• Understanding of Procure-to-Pay processes in hospital/clinical environments.
• Active Virginia CPA license or a reciprocal U.S. CPA license with the capability to obtain Virginia licensure is highly preferred.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or MBA.
• Preferred: CHFP, CMA, CGFM, or CIA certifications.
• Must be authorized to work in the USA.
