This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.
• Oversee daily financial operations for the designated portfolio, which includes managing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial transactions, reporting, budget oversight, and year-end closing activities.
• Act as the primary financial partner for the Southern Division Office and its associated programs, such as North American Fire and the Mississippi River Basin Program.
• Direct the annual budgeting process, forecasting, long-term financial planning, financial reporting, fiscal year-end activities, and related initiatives.
• Provide financial reporting, detailed financial analysis, scenario modeling, and strategic recommendations for program and Division leaders.
• Evaluate budgets, forecasts, funding, resource distribution, spending strategies, and potential financial risks and opportunities.
• Convert organizational and programmatic priorities into financial strategies and actionable plans.
• Identify financial challenges, opportunities, and emerging needs; develop and execute recommendations.
• Serve as a finance advisor to program and Division leaders.
• Engage in leadership teams, meetings, strategic planning discussions, retreats, and decision-making forums.
• Offer consultation, problem-solving, analysis, and financial advice throughout the wider Southern Division.
• Assist with Division-level resource allocation and funding strategies.
• Ensure proper management of financial resources, adherence to internal controls, policy compliance, donor and funding obligations, regulatory standards, and GAAP compliance.
• Guarantee the accuracy and integrity of financial data, processes, and controls through the use of Workday and other financial systems.
• Collaborate with philanthropy, conservation, operations, grants, government relations, leadership, and other functional teams.
• Aid in the financial management of federal awards and restricted funds.
• Supervise the financial aspects of contracts, agreements, and business transactions.
• Serve as a Certified Contract Specialist for the Southern Division Office, as assigned.
• Support governance and leadership activities with Division leadership, program leadership, Boards of Trustees, Finance Committees, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the Southern Division Finance Director to implement strategies and enhance financial management practices.
• Develop scalable financial processes, tools, and practices.
• Cultivate trusted partnerships and promote financial accountability across the Division and its programs.
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, along with 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficient in utilizing computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets, and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reporting.
• Experience in budget development, conducting high-level financial analyses, recommending actions, and providing financial partnership to leadership.
• Proven experience as a financial consultant, advisor, or strategic partner to organizational leaders and decision-makers.
• Familiarity with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience in developing, managing, and executing multiple projects or financial initiatives.
• Background in U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic finance partner and thought leader to business, program, or organizational leaders.
• Advanced skills in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis.
• Capability to independently evaluate financial and operational issues, formulate recommendations, and transition from analysis to action.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to connect financial insights to organizational priorities, programmatic objectives, funding opportunities, and resource allocation decisions.
• Experience in analyzing complex financial data, identifying risks and opportunities, assessing alternatives, and developing solutions.
• Proven record of supporting financial management across complex programs, portfolios, projects, grants, contracts, or restricted funding sources.
• Ability to create financial strategies and proposals without a pre-established solution or process.
• Strong partnership-building skills, influencing decision-making, and collaborating across various business units, programs, and functional areas.
• Experience in providing financial consultation and problem-solving support beyond one’s immediate portfolio.
• Ability to establish credibility, quickly adapt to different operational and financial environments, and manage competing priorities.
• Competence in operating effectively within a matrixed organization.
• Experience in evaluating financial processes, internal controls, and management practices for compliance and stewardship.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial management principles, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Preferred experience with federal grants, government regulations, contracts, or other restricted funding sources.
• Familiarity with enterprise financial systems, including Workday or similar ERP systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including the skill to convey financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Experience in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, or mission-driven organization.
• Valid driver's license and adherence to TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
• Successful completion of TNC's background screening process.
• Multilingual abilities and/or multicultural experience are valued.
• MBA, CPA, CIA, or other relevant professional certifications are a plus.
