Field Technician III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Execute intricate field service operations throughout the designated geographic region with minimal oversight.

• Install, commission, decommission, troubleshoot, and maintain both network and customer service equipment.

• Set up, test, activate, troubleshoot, and maintain SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, Ethernet, transport, DC power, and essential infrastructure equipment.

• Carry out OTDR, Ethernet, BER, SONET, circuit, optical, electrical, and power acceptance testing.

• Perform preventative and demand maintenance for network facilities, critical infrastructure, fiber assets, and materials.

• Identify, analyze, and resolve potential network problems through root cause analysis and corrective measures.

• Conduct site surveys and field inspections for building entrances, equipment spaces, cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and outside plant facilities.

• Install, label, scope, clean, and test fiber-optic patch cords, supporting both inside-plant and outside-plant work.

• Prepare documentation, reports, site surveys, audit reports, closeout materials, and system updates.

• Communicate effectively with customers, peers, management, contractors, and other stakeholders.

• Act as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced technicians.

• Participate in project meetings, cross-functional forums, on-call rotations, dispatch, overtime, occasional long shifts, and overnight travel.

• Adhere to safety protocols, vehicle policies, and applicable procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• A minimum of four (4) years of telecommunications field experience in installing, testing, activating, troubleshooting, and maintaining network equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, and IP-based equipment.

• Advanced working knowledge of telecommunications installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting methods.

• Proficiency in optical transmission systems, transport equipment, low/high voltage electrical systems, DC power, critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP environments, and related testing equipment.

• Experience with OTDR, optical power meters, digital multi-meters, fiber identifiers, fiber scopes, RFC2544, RFC6349 TrueSpeed, iPerf, Y.1564, and 1G/10G/100G/400G circuit testing.

• Capability to interpret OSHA/company safety regulations, MSDS, MOPs, CLR/DLR documentation, process and procedure documents, and vendor equipment documentation.

• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, construction areas, varied terrains, and adverse weather conditions, with potential exposure to vegetation or wildlife.

• Capability to lift up to 75 pounds and fulfill physical job requirements.

• Eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle.

• Basic telecommunications and/or industry safety training is required.

• A valid state-issued driver’s license is mandatory.

• Maintain company vehicle eligibility, which includes no more than two moving violations in the last three years.

• Advanced telecommunications training is preferred.

• Experience in supporting, mentoring, or coaching less experienced technicians is preferred.
