This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.
• Execute a range of tasks tailored to the needs of the designated geographic region.
• Work under limited supervision.
• Engage in meetings and functions related to ongoing projects and processes.
• Carry out installation and commissioning, troubleshooting, and management of optical transmission systems with guidance from supervisors.
• Conduct OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET acceptance testing.
• Complete installation, decommissioning, and troubleshooting of network and customer services.
• Provide preliminary site surveys to assess building entrance construction needs and equipment space availability.
• Accountable for preventive and demand maintenance of the network, critical infrastructure (often referred to as facilities), and materials management.
• Take ownership of understanding, learning, and adhering to Zayo’s standards for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safeguarding of the network.
• Install, label, scope & clean, and test fiber optic patch cords.
• Occasionally assigned to outside plant networks within a designated market, including metro and long-haul fibers.
• Proactively identify and report potential network issues before they escalate into service-affecting events.
• This includes taking action to resolve issues identified during routine preventative maintenance conducted within set timelines.
• Achieve documented objectives and goals as dictated by business requirements.
• Prepare routine reports, complete documentation such as site surveys, fiber panel audits, close-out packages, power audit reports, and effectively communicate with customers, management, peers, contractors, and other organizational members.
• Address problems in complex scenarios.
• Utilize deductive reasoning skills to enhance customer satisfaction and network performance.
• Inspect outdoor cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and other facilities in diverse environments, weather conditions, and terrains, with potential exposure to various types of vegetation and/or wildlife.
• Assist colleagues with tasks as required.
• Serve as a resource for less experienced Field Technicians.
• Conduct routine inspections of company-issued vehicles to ensure safe operating conditions.
• Adhere to all personal safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to support after-hours activities as needed.
• Possess flexibility to work occasional extended shifts with overnight travel when necessary.
• Undertake other assigned duties.
• Must reside within an hour's distance from the New York/New Jersey metropolitan areas.
• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• A minimum of two (2) years of Telecom Field experience, including installation, testing, or activation of various telecommunications equipment such as SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, or Ethernet-based equipment is required.
• OTDR experience is preferred.
• DC Power experience is preferred.
• Experience with circuit testing at up to 1G, 10G, 100G, and 400G is preferred.
• Familiarity with RFC2544, RFC6349 Truespeed, iPerf, and Y.1564 is preferred.
• Knowledge of Optical Power Meter, Digital Multi-meter, Fiber Identifier, and Fiber Scope is beneficial.
• Ability to effectively work within the company's systems and applications to complete tasks.
• Capability to regularly lift and transport objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Must pass an MVR check to maintain eligibility to operate a company vehicle as per policy (no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years); possession of a state-issued driver's license for the state of residence is required.
• Must have and maintain proper legal identification and meet background check requirements: Real ID is a plus; Security clearance is a plus.
• Basic telecom and/or industry safety training is necessary.
• Ability to effectively operate in both team and individual settings.
• Proficiency in written communication with internal and external peers daily to pursue common objectives.
• Capability to resolve minor conflicts with industry peers, internal colleagues, or customers without requiring management intervention.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as OSHA/Company safety rules, MSDS, MOP's, CLR/DLR, process and procedure documents, and vendor documentation.
