Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Deliver technical assistance for FAA programs and systems, including FTI, MS, ADS-B, DCNS, WMSS, and other supported initiatives.

• Install, repair, configure, test, and conduct preventative maintenance on equipment at clients’ remote sites.

• Provide scheduled and emergency field support at customer locations within the designated area, with occasional travel beyond that area.

• Read, comprehend, and adhere to equipment schematics and task orders.

• Document work performed and occurrences at customer sites.

• Collaborate with the NOCC, SAC, and Helpdesk via phone to resolve field-related issues.

• Maintain tools, testing equipment, parts/electronics, truck stock inventory, and personal or company vehicles.

• Prepare for assigned tasks prior to dispatch.

• Lift equipment and utilize ladders/step stools to access elevated spaces.

• Coordinate with the supervisor/ASL to comply with L3Harris and program-specific policies and procedures.

• Support FAA contracts including FTI, ADSB, DCNS, and other FSG programs in the airspaces around Chicago.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or 2 years of post-secondary/Associates Degree combined with at least 4 years of related experience.

• Valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

• Capacity to obtain and maintain an FAA security clearance.

• Ability to work from home in an “on-call” capacity.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time to remote locations within a 3-hour drive radius from the base location and beyond the assigned region as necessary.

• Ability to work outside of regular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls.

• Capability to lift items weighing up to 32 lbs., with a preferred ability to lift 70 pounds.

• Proficiency in using ladders and step stools to reach approximately 10 feet.

• Outstanding customer service skills.

• Ability to function in a high-stress and high-visibility environment.

• Solid working knowledge of cable connectors including RJ-11, RJ-45, DB-25, V.35, and RS-449.

• Excellent working knowledge of fiber optics, multiplexes, network topology, Frame Relay, Fractional T-1, SONET Network Technology, ATM, Private Line, and voice/data applications.

• Good understanding of AC/DC power testing, including 3-phase AC, and 24VDC/48VDC power supplies.

• Experience with T1, DS3, digital BERT, and analog VG network/circuit testing following Bell Core Standards.

• Familiarity with and use of network testing equipment such as JDSU HST, Ameritech AM5XT, Sage 935, digital oscilloscope, Halcyon 704A, and Para-scope or equivalent T1/DS3 testing sets.

• Knowledge and experience in IP-based configurations of routers and switches.

• Experience in installing equipment racks.

• Preferred certifications: Network+, CCNA, CCNP, CCNA Wireless, A+.
