This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Deliver top-tier installation services for new equipment, emphasizing attention to detail, high performance standards, and professional customer transitions.
• Independently identify and resolve issues with assigned equipment swiftly and accurately to ensure repairs can be completed in a single visit.
• Confirm all Service Visit Orders (SVOs) within 24 hours of job completion, adhering to procedures and guidelines for spare parts and time management.
• Provide precise and detailed billable quotations within 24 hours upon request.
• Complete preventive maintenance tasks for contract customers within 90 days of SVO assignment, utilizing proper checklists and documentation shared with customers.
• Promptly escalate unresolved issues through the appropriate channels.
• Inform customers about potential upgrades and accessories, directing leads to the relevant departments.
• Integrate available systems into the ZEISS Predictive Service network.
• Perform specialized site or system environmental analysis tests as assigned.
• Educate customers on basic system operations and maintenance according to established guidelines.
• Maintain care of ZEISS tools and other assets.
• Return spare parts within one week and accurately manage the individual Stock on Memo account in a timely manner.
• Complete assigned technical training, including pre-reading, independent study, and necessary courses.
• Engage in personal development via the ZEISS CurioZ online training platform and through self-directed learning.
• Ensure personal safety while visiting laboratories and institutions.
• Uphold and share ZEISS values with both internal and external customers.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
• Provide support to customers in the local Pittsburgh area.
• May assist Level 1 Field Service Engineers (FSEs) and participate in specific projects as directed by management.
• Bachelor's degree or technical certificate in a technical/scientific field, relevant military electronics experience, or a comparable combination of training and experience, such as 3+ years of direct experience in building, maintaining, installing, and/or repairing similarly complex automated electromechanical systems.
• 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Laboratory Safety requirements for BSL 1, 2, and 3 environments and handling of Level 3 (and below) pathogenic biohazards (e.g., bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and prions).
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot issues related to software, electronics, optics and electron optics, high voltage, high vacuum, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with Windows operating systems and word processing or email applications. Experience with databases or CRM systems is advantageous.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical or mechanical engineering documentation and schematics.
• Must possess a clean driving record, a valid U.S. driver's license, and the ability to operate a company-provided vehicle.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills, capable of conversing fluently in English, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in German is a plus.
• Effective administrative and time management capabilities.
• Willingness and capability to engage with customers in their workspaces, including BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities. If capable and willing, may be asked to engage in a BSL-4 environment.
• Readiness to travel both domestically and internationally.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment crates, with an approximate weight of 75 lbs.
• Eligible to obtain a corporate credit card.
• Completion of six months to one year of formal training as a Field Service Engineer, proficiently maintaining all associated duties and responsibilities.
