Field Application Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with sales leadership to create a targeted list of strategic AEC firms and design-build contractors.

• Facilitate early engagement to position PowerSecure solutions as the foundational design in key market segments including data centers, healthcare, retail, e-logistics, and federal government.

• Actively work to establish or modify the basis of design to include PowerSecure’s products, solutions, and services.

• Build and sustain relationships with design engineers, specifiers, principals, and technical decision-makers.

• Position PowerSecure products, solutions, and/or services as preferred or sole-source options where applicable.

• Offer technical consultation throughout the concept, schematic, and detailed design stages.

• Assist AEC firms with system selection and sizing, performance modeling and trade-off analysis, code compliance and standards interpretation, as well as value engineering alternatives aligned with project objectives.

• Review drawings, specifications, and submissions to ensure compatibility with company offerings.

• Collaborate with engineering firms to integrate PowerSecure products, solutions, and/or services into master specifications, replacing competitor or legacy technologies in established design standards.

• Monitor AEC firm-level standards and manage long-term conversion strategies.

• Work together with sales, product management, and applications engineering teams to synchronize technical positioning with commercial strategies.

• Support sales teams by crafting technical justifications for sole-source or preferred specifications and aiding in pre-bid and pre-award technical clarifications.

• Provide market insights to inform product development and messaging strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering is required.

• A PE license is preferred.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience engaging with AEC firms or similar experience is required.

• Direct experience in producing or reviewing engineering designs is necessary.

• A demonstrated understanding of how Basis of Design documents, drawings, and specifications are generated is essential.

• A proven grasp of schematic designs, EOR responsibilities, and risk assessment and mitigation in design decisions is required.

• Previous experience in a consulting engineering firm, EPC/design-build team, or as an OEM for distributed energy resource products/services is needed.

• Ability to discuss system architecture and alternatives, performance trade-offs, failure modes, operational risk, codes, standards, and compliance pathways, while confidently challenging outdated designs without being perceived as reckless.

• Proven track record of supporting sales through the creation of technical justifications for sole-source specifications, preempting substitution risks, and assisting with pre-bid clarifications.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, customer focus, independence, adaptability, and a readiness to travel extensively are required.

• In-depth knowledge of distributed energy resource solutions and their value to utilities and commercial and industrial customers is essential.

• Capability to convey PowerSecure’s solution value proposition in a manner that is easily understood by our customers and those defining solutions for them.

• Strong orientation towards understanding client needs, fostering relationships, and ensuring client satisfaction.

• Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.

• Proficiency in collaborating effectively with sales teams, internal engineering, and customers to achieve objectives.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, conflict resolution, and relationship-building capabilities.
