This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a Facility Safety Engineer for DOE Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities, as well as chemically hazardous facilities when applicable.
• Offer technical assistance to guarantee that Safety Basis requirements are comprehended, implemented, and sustained.
• Create, maintain, review, and assist in periodic and annual revisions of Safety Basis and related documents.
• Aid in preparing Documented Safety Analyses, Technical Safety Requirements, hazard evaluation reports, safety analysis reports, SSC analyses, and system design descriptions.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, project teams, Safety Analysis personnel, and DOE representatives to ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards.
• Conduct and assist in hazard evaluations and accident analyses for facility operations, modifications, new projects, and modernization initiatives.
• Record and maintain assumptions, controls, and credited safety functions.
• Organize and take part in facility safety design reviews.
• Assess safety-class and safety-significant SSCs, functional requirements, system descriptions, and design modifications.
• Assist with USQ screenings, determinations, evaluations, and change-control processes.
• Evaluate engineering designs, work packages, procedures, and proposed changes for their impact on the approved Safety Basis.
• Generate technically sound documentation and engage in technical and peer reviews.
• Provide facility safety direction to multidisciplinary teams.
• Facilitate the prompt resolution of safety basis and compliance concerns.
• A Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline such as Physics or Chemistry.
• At least eight years of pertinent experience in DOE nuclear safety, facility safety, safety analysis, or safety basis.
• Proven experience in supporting nuclear facilities through the development, maintenance, implementation, or review of Safety Basis documentation and related facility safety requirements.
• Familiarity with 10 CFR 830 Subpart B and applicable DOE nuclear safety regulations and guidance.
• Experience in collaborating across Operations, Engineering, Safety Analysis, and project teams.
• Background in hazard evaluations, accident analyses, facility modifications, design reviews, and/or USQ activities.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination abilities.
• Active DOE Q clearance is mandatory.
