Estimator – Civil Construction, Surface Mining

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Generate estimates for designated projects that encompass roads, underground infrastructure, earthworks, aggregates, trucking, and surface mining services.

• Analyze drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and tender requirements.

• Compile quantity takeoffs along with comprehensive estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.

• Gather and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

• Collaborate with operations to determine effective construction methods, production rates, and timelines.

• Recognize gaps in scope, risks, assumptions, and opportunities to enhance competitiveness.

• Draft bid documents and transition awarded estimates to the project team.

• Engage in bid reviews with ESS leadership, who maintains final pricing approval.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of relevant experience in heavy civil estimating.

• In-depth knowledge of roadbuilding, earthworks, or underground infrastructure.

• Experience in crushing, aggregates, drilling and blasting, or surface mining is considered an asset.

• Proficient in Excel and digital takeoff tools, such as Bluebeam.

• Capacity to independently prepare detailed estimates, articulate assumptions clearly, and adhere to deadlines.

• Relevant technical training or a comparable combination of estimating and field experience.

• Demonstrated professional judgment, discretion, and a commitment to safeguarding confidential information.

• Availability during the day for coordination and bid submissions.

• Occasional travel to Northern Ontario may be required with prior arrangement.
