This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ethiopia.
• Lead comprehensive epidemiological analyses to assess the effectiveness of existing interventions, comprehend disease patterns, and guide strategic planning related to climate and health data.
• Conduct literature reviews on pertinent topics as required (e.g., surveillance methods, climate-sensitive disease transmission, impact of interventions).
• Monitor, evaluate, and enhance the performance of country-specific Climate-Informed Early Warning Systems and associated data platforms.
• Contribute to the development of surveillance guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), while providing technical training at both national and sub-national levels.
• Organize, cleanse, and integrate datasets from various sources to support the development of CI-EWS and perform additional analyses as necessary.
• Assist in the institutionalization of CI-EWS, including the creation of data collection tools and dashboards, such as DHIS2.
• Advocate for the regular utilization of epidemiological, weather, and climate data to guide country strategy planning and program execution.
• Build and manage collaborations with technical experts, Ministry of Health representatives, and organizations providing Global Fund technical assistance.
• Prepare progress reports that highlight achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with at least 8 years of progressive professional experience in relevant positions.
• Knowledge of climate-sensitive disease epidemiology (e.g., malaria, dengue), including surveillance and assessment of vector control interventions.
• Proven expertise in employing research methods to address global health challenges, particularly those related to climate change and infectious diseases.
• Established epidemiological or monitoring & evaluation experience in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts, with insight into infrastructure limitations and connectivity issues.
• Proficient in handling datasets from various sources that require preprocessing before analysis.
• Experienced in data entry, data management, epidemiological analysis, and statistical analysis using statistical software (R, STATA, and/or other relevant tools).
• Familiar with the application of geographic data, analysis, and visualization in relevant mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiological surveys.
• Proficient in evaluating, working with, and enhancing surveillance systems.
• Exceptional communication skills, enabling effective interaction with both technical and policy audiences, and translating complex data concepts into actionable insights for decision-makers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the capacity to represent the organization externally and produce engaging materials for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in written and spoken French is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across government, technology, and global health sectors.
• Willingness and capability to travel internationally.
• International travel (up to 50%) to technical assistance countries as necessary.
