
Engineering Manager – Transportation and Warehousing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.
• Oversee engineering initiatives throughout distribution centers and plant-based warehouses.
• Formulate strategies for enhancing warehouse processes and infrastructure to optimize asset efficiency while adhering to budget constraints for capital and R&M expenditures.
• Provide enterprise-level ownership and leadership in the execution of powered industrial equipment and industrial racking systems.
• Create standards, lifecycle strategies, and capital plans pertaining to equipment and racking systems.
• Collaborate with automation and operations teams to ensure facilities and equipment are prepared for automation.
• Act as a subject matter expert in material handling equipment (MHE), racking systems, warehouse automation, facility design, optimization, and infrastructure.
• Formulate strategies for cost reduction and efficiency enhancements.
• Maintain long-term execution plans for both owned and leased warehouse facilities.
• Supervise warehouse operating budgets and assess trade-offs for capital investments.
• Investigate emerging technologies for their applicability in the distribution network.
• Create specifications and standards for equipment.
• Cultivate supplier relationships and ensure accountability, performance, and value.
• Collaborate with Transportation and Warehouse Operations, Manufacturing Platform teams, Program Management, and Finance.
• Develop financial justifications for optimization and capital initiatives.
• Lead capital planning and execution for powered industrial truck (PIT) and racking projects.
• Manage capital equipment installation projects to meet budget, timeline, and performance benchmarks.
• Engage with external engineering firms, third-party logistics (3PL) partners, and distribution center leadership for site-specific implementation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least seven years of experience in industrial engineering or logistics and distribution engineering.
• Significant experience with warehouse infrastructure and building systems, including MHE, racking, dock equipment, and drop lots.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing programs from conception to execution.
• Familiarity with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and conveyor systems.
• Experience in influencing cross-functional teams and managing third-party relationships without direct authority.
• Excellent presentation and communication abilities, particularly in conveying analyses and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Experience in driving programs and initiatives within matrixed organizations.
• Proven ability to build relationships, both internal and external, and hold individuals and vendors accountable.
• Background in inventory management, warehouse operations, or related supply chain activities.
• Project management experience for capital projects valued up to five million dollars.
• Strong understanding of distribution operations and comprehensive supply chain management.
• Position based in Omaha, Nebraska; Chicago, Illinois; select field locations; or remote locations east of Denver, Colorado, within a reasonable distance (50 miles) to a major airport.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to various plant and distribution center locations.
