Engineering Manager, Switchboard

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee the fullstack Switchboard team tasked with managing GitLab Dedicated’s customer-facing control panel, providing clear guidance on the team's product delivery and evolution. This role involves close collaboration with the assigned Product Manager.

• Recruit and cultivate a high-performing team that empowers its members to excel and achieve results with both quality and efficiency.

• Collaborate with Technical Team Leads to offer direction and serve as the final decision-maker, facilitating the team's progress swiftly.

• Work closely with Product and Design on the customer-facing control panel, focusing on wireframes and UI direction for external users.

• Take ownership of planning alongside the Product Manager, managing priorities, dependencies, and the quarterly delivery epic.

• Ensure rapid, high-quality, and cross-functional execution across frontend, backend, UX, product, and technical writing teams.

• Promote enhancements in quality, security, and performance.

• Support the team’s goal of enabling GitLab Dedicated customers to manage their tenant environments while minimizing manual operations across the expansive Dedicated fleet.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated success in building and managing large-scale distributed services, possessing the technical expertise to delve into architecture and guide the team on technical strategy.

• Experience in fostering operational excellence, with a history of overseeing services that maintain four-nines (99.99%) SLOs and understanding the requirements to sustain that level.

• Proficient in utilizing AI tools to enhance team productivity, with real insights gained from both successes and challenges.

• A proven track record of developing and maintaining high-performing, accountable team cultures, including the ability to manage underperformance when necessary.

• Comfortable leading complex projects to completion without the need for a dedicated TPM.

• Experience effectively managing distributed and remote teams.
