This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead and expand the current team dedicated to Fellow’s desktop application, botless recording experience, mobile recording, and real-time audio and video infrastructure.
• Mentor and develop engineers across these platforms, enhance the team with necessary expertise, and promote broad knowledge sharing and ownership.
• Transform reliability into a competitive edge by enhancing observability, tooling, incident response, and the systems and practices needed for large-scale platform operation.
• Maintain close relationships with Fellow users and our support teams, leveraging real-world feedback to inform the team’s priorities.
• Remain technically engaged by writing production code where it adds value, collaborating on challenging bugs and prototypes, and staying attuned to the architecture and risks within the systems your team manages.
• Establish benchmarks for the team's use of AI coding tools, modeling effective workflows and consistently seeking innovative methods to enhance speed without sacrificing production quality.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, SRE, and other engineering leaders to translate ambiguous opportunities into clear priorities and measurable results.
• Balance ambitious user-facing projects with platform investments that facilitate quicker, safer, and more reliable future development.
• Contribute to shaping future initiatives, including deeper operating-system integrations, new recording environments, native mobile capabilities, and on-device intelligence.
• Success entails supporting an established team in enhancing its capabilities and impact, delivering ambitious new experiences, and developing a recording platform that users can trust.
• Over 7 years of experience in software engineering.
• More than 2 years of experience in managing software engineers.
• A genuine interest in remaining technically engaged and continuing to write code.
• Proven experience leading teams responsible for production-critical systems.
• A history of enhancing the reliability, observability, and operational ease of systems.
• Strong judgment in balancing feature delivery, user impact, technical debt, and platform investments.
• Ability to convert ambiguity into actionable momentum across various teams or technical domains.
• A record of innovating beyond standard AI coding workflows by designing, testing, and implementing new tools, processes, and development practices that significantly improve software development.
• Experience with systems where latency, uptime, consistency, or real-time behavior significantly influence user experience.
• Experience in recruiting and nurturing strong engineers, including those with specialized technical skills.
• Excellent communication skills with engineers, product partners, peer leaders, users, and executives.
• Passion for developing both exceptional technology and a strong team around it.
