This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more states.
• Lead the Payments engineering team in delivering dependable, high-quality web application experiences.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to prioritize roadmap initiatives related to payments, billing, and associated customer/business outcomes.
• Navigate the team through intricate technical tradeoffs concerning reliability, maintainability, risk, and delivery speed.
• Develop and mentor engineers through regular one-on-one meetings, feedback, coaching, and performance discussions.
• Collaborate with senior technical leaders to ensure the team produces well-tested, maintainable, and efficient code.
• Assist the team in navigating existing system complexities and pinpoint opportunities to enhance reliability and scalability.
• Clearly communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions to relevant stakeholders.
• Recruit and onboard strong engineering talent as the team expands.
• Cultivate a positive, accountable, and high-quality engineering culture.
• 2–3+ years of experience leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or a technical people leader.
• Experience managing web application engineering teams in a SaaS environment.
• Background in payments, billing, financial systems, fintech, subscription platforms, or similarly complex/high-stakes domains.
• Familiarity with payment processing or billing platforms such as Stripe, Recurly, Chargify, or similar solutions.
• Ruby on Rails experience is strongly preferred; knowledge of React or similar web application frameworks is also beneficial.
• Proven track record of guiding teams through the delivery of roadmap initiatives and achieving measurable outcomes.
• Strong judgment regarding technical quality, risk, system complexity, and customer/business impact.
• Genuine passion and history of attracting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
