This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +18 more states.
• Lead and expand an engineering team of over 8 engineers that focuses on checkout architecture, order management, and post-order quality. These systems are crucial to Instacart's core customer experience and have a direct effect on conversion rates and reliability at scale.
• Act as the main engineering liaison for more than 10 partner teams within the organization, overseeing high-volume project intake, establishing clear prioritization frameworks, and ensuring that the Order Experience remains a dependable and well-defined component for every significant launch at Instacart.
• Foster a platform-oriented mindset within the team by pinpointing opportunities to rebuild and modernize essential systems without compromising the speed of delivering customer-facing value, while making informed trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term architectural integrity.
• Manage engineering execution from start to finish: aligning roadmaps, developing technical strategies, and overseeing team health, recruitment, and career advancement for a high-performing team of engineers in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, data science, and cross-functional engineering leaders to shape the future of order infrastructure, influencing how Instacart scales its checkout and fulfillment systems as the business expands.
• Over 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an engineering management position leading teams of 8 or more engineers.
• Proven experience in owning and scaling backend systems within a high-traffic, production setting, particularly those related to e-commerce, order management, checkout, or similar transactional areas.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional dependencies across multiple partner teams simultaneously, along with strong prioritization and communication skills with stakeholders.
• Experience in driving technical roadmaps that balance platform modernization with ongoing product delivery in a dynamic environment.
• A successful history of hiring, retaining, and developing engineering talent, including managing performance and facilitating career growth discussions.
