This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead a team of Software Engineers to develop the identity and access management foundation for Bestow’s digital life insurance enrollment platform.
• Allocate around 20% of your time to writing production code.
• Guide the team, influence architectural decisions, and collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and enterprise partners.
• Manage Kubernetes workloads within the Google Cloud Platform.
• Enhance IAM platform scalability to allow enterprise clients to onboard seamlessly without engineering involvement while adhering to security and compliance standards.
• Remain actively engaged in system design, architectural choices, pull request evaluations, code quality assessments, testing, documentation, automation, and quality control measures.
• Work alongside engineers to debug and troubleshoot issues while leading diagnostic efforts.
• Recognize technical debt, devise remediation strategies, and advocate for dedicated resolution time.
• Advance authorization processes for multi-tenant enterprise clients.
• Differentiate authentication from authorization for independent scaling, caching, and policy enforcement.
• Develop token strategies and manage associated vendor relationships.
• Create automated processes for user provisioning and de-provisioning.
• Tackle biometric re-authentication, extended sessions, layered access policies, and compliance audit requirements.
• Engage in the IAM team’s weekly on-call rotation.
• Oversee observability, monitoring, alerting, uptime, incident metrics, and incident response strategies.
• Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, mentor, and cultivate engineers.
• Conduct one-on-one meetings, establish development plans, offer stretch assignments, and manage team conflicts.
• Set expectations, provide constructive feedback, perform performance evaluations, and address instances of underperformance.
• Translate product needs into technical plans, estimate capacity and timelines, and ensure delivery aligns with estimates.
• Take ownership of the team’s roadmap and daily task prioritization.
• Monitor delivery metrics and present them during monthly operational reviews.
• Determine IAM’s technical direction and align company strategy with team-level initiatives through RFCs, PRD contributions, and task tickets.
• Communicate project status, progress, and potential risks to stakeholders, senior leadership, and external partners.
• Link technical efforts to business outcomes and clearly define cost-benefit trade-offs.
• Demonstrate the use of AI coding tools, establish standards for review, testing, and attribution, and enhance the team’s AI methodologies.
• Foster an environment conducive to experimentation and learning from unsuccessful attempts.
• Over 8 years of professional software development experience.
• At least 1 year of direct management experience leading a team of Software Engineers while remaining hands-on with coding.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Professional experience with Go, or another statically typed backend language with a clear progression to Go.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes or a similar container orchestration solution.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or another relational database and ANSI SQL.
• Experience in designing modern distributed systems and APIs.
• Competence in using Docker for local development.
• Experience with Protocol Buffers, OpenAPI, or Swagger.
• Comprehensive understanding of the entire software development lifecycle, continuous integration, and release strategies.
• Practical experience with agentic coding tools in a production environment.
• Ability to monitor key metrics and fulfill established Service Level Agreements.
• Skill in dissecting ambiguous technical challenges and identifying risks at an early stage.
• Capability to pick up and deliver work within team codebases.
• E-Verify employment eligibility verification for newly hired individuals.
• IAM experience with Auth0, Okta, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, multi-tenant architecture, RBAC/ABAC/policy-based access control, SAML 2.0, OIDC, and SCIM is highly preferred but not mandatory.
• Direct experience with Claude Code is preferred; similar experience with Cursor or GitHub Copilot is also relevant.
